Local Crime from 16th District 9-11-19
SHOTS WERE fired at about 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, in the 6500 block of West School Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 26-year-old woman reported that she heard gunshots and officers discovered nine spent 9mm bullet casings, according to police. Officers attempted to interview two males near the scene but they fled into a building nearby, police said.
A TEENAGER reported that he was robbed at about 5:20 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, in the 3600 block of North Laramie Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The teen reported that he was walking when two males on mountain bicycles blocked his path and one demanded his belongings and lifted his shirt to reveal a steel-colored object, and that he placed a case containing his ear buds valued at $160 and his wallet on the ground and the other male took the ear buds, returned the teen’s school ID and transit card from the wallet but kept the wallet containing $7 to $10 in cash, according to police.
The armed male was described as white/Hispanic, age 17 to 19.
THREE MEN were arrested on burglary charges at about 4:10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, in the 5900 block of North Medina Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers saw a red Chevrolet Tahoe with three men inside disobey a red light signal at the intersection of Nagle and Avondale avenues and conducted a traffic stop, releasing the driver without citations at about 4:05 a.m., and they saw the Chevrolet continue to drive erratically while making several U-turns on Milwaukee Avenue and followed the vehicle until it stopped on Medina, where they saw the men approach a dark blue Honda CR-V with tools suspected to be used for stealing vehicles’ catalytic converters, according to police. The men were arrested after they were identified following a chase, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Brian Washington, age 45, of the 2800 block of West Fillmore Street, Clenton Walker, age 53, of the 7300 block of South Stony Island Avenue; and Recardo Smith, age 56, of the 7900 block of South East End Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 10:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, in the 3400 block of North Lavergne Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 29-year-old man reported that three men punched him in the head, and took his cellphone valued at $150 and $500 in cash from his wallet before they ran away south and entered a vehicle, according to police. The man was treated at Illinois Masonic Hospital, according to police.
The men were all described as white/Hispanic and age 18 to 22.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at gunpoint at about 9:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, in the 5500 block of West Eddy Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 20-year-old man reported that he was walking his dog when he saw two men approaching, one who was a former coworker, and that after he exchanged greetings the coworker pointed a handgun and demanded his belongings and took his cellphone valued at $1,000 and his Michael Jordan sneakers valued at $200, according to police.
The armed man was described as black, age 21 to 23, and the other man as white/Hispanic and age 20.
A MAN REPORTED that he was threatened with a knife in an apparent road-rage incident at about 1 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, in the 3800 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 33-year-old man reported that he was waiting at a red light at Central Avenue and Addison Street when a green Toyota Corolla drove near and tried to pass him as he continued driving north and the 33-year-old pulled over at Central and Berenice when the man exited and approached him with a pocket knife, according to police. An off-duty police officer reported that he was riding his motorcycle behind the 33-year-old when he saw the incident unfolding and approached the scene, and that the armed man re-entered the Toyota and drove away west on Irving Park Road, police said.
The man was described as white/ Hispanic, age 40 to 50, 5-6 to 5-7, 170 to 175 pounds, with short partially gray hair, and wearing a white T-shirt.
A TEENAGER reported that a man exposed himself in the parking lot at Veterans Square, 4867 N. Milwaukee Ave., at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 16-year-old female reported that she was waiting for a relative to pick her up from the parking lot by the Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant when a black BMW drove into the lot and the male driver made eye contact and started touching himself, and that she started to walk away and the BMW drove off but that she noticed the BMW waiting around the corner as the family member picked her up and they later called police, according to police.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, age 30 to 40, with black combed-over hair.
A MAN REPORTED that he saw a man steal and crash his car at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, in the 5500 block of West Addison Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 31-year-old man reported that he left his 1994 Ford Mustang running near a bus stop on Addison Street when an unknown male entered the Mustang and drove away, and witnesses reported that the Mustang struck several parked vehicles before the male left the Mustang behind, according to police.
The male was described as wearing a gray or brown baseball cap and blue jean shorts.
AN APARTMENT in the 5300 block of West Newport Avenue was set on fire at about 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man reported that he smelled smoke, exited his second-floor apartment and used a key to enter his neighbor’s first floor apartment, where he discovered smoke coming from the rear bedroom, and he called the fire department, according to police.
The Chicago Fire Department’s Office of Fire Investigation discovered that the fire originated from an unknown object by an east-facing window and a curtain hanging over a west-facing window, and they determined that the incident was likely caused by arson, police said.
Pontiac
A MAN WAS arrested for allegedly breaking into a house in the 3300 block of North Pontiac Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man reported that he heard a man opening his house door and step inside when he held the door shut, retrieved a gun and held the man for police, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Rocco J. Del Medidco, age 62, of the 1800 block of North Natchez Avenue.
A WOMAN reported that her family’s house in the 5400 block of West Grace Street was burglarized between 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when her husband returned home he discovered that their rear door had been broken and she discovered that unknown amount of jewelry was missing, according to police.
A COUPLE reported that the garage of their home in the 4900 block of West Hutchinson Street and their vehicles were burglarized between 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, and 5 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to the garage he discovered that the doors to his garage and his parked 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee were opened and $45 in cash was missing from the car and the woman reported that she discovered that a pair of sunglasses was missing from her vehicle, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of their home in the 4800 block of West Cullom Avenue and his vehicles were burglarized at about 3 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he woke up to the sound of his dog barking and later he discovered that his garage door was opened and that a pair of men’s sunglasses valued at $400, a pair of women’s sunglasses valued at $150, a phone charger valued at $150 and $10 in cash were missing from the vehicles, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 5600 block of West Henderson Street was burglarized between 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, and 7:45 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to the garage he discovered the side garage door was kicked in, and that an iPass highway toll device, a canvas wagon and an axe were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his car was stolen between 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, and 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, from the 6000 block of North Keeler Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he went outside he discovered that his gray 2010 Buick LaCrosse was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her car was stolen at about 12:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, from a parking lot in the 4300 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she went outside she discovered that her 2010 Ford Fusion was stolen, and a surveillance video showed that a group of males approached the Ford and one man drove off, according to police.
A few days later Oak Park Police discovered the Ford left abandoned in the town and towed the vehicle, and it was returned to the woman on Sept. 3, police said.
SEVERAL burglaries to vehicles were reported in the area between 11 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, and 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Burglarized vehicles were reported in the 4800 block of North Sayre Avenue, the 5200 block of North Lamon Avenue, the 6700 block of West Rascher Avenue, the 7300 block of West Pensacola Avenue in Norridge and the 8200 block of West Addison Street, according to police.
