Local Crime from 16th District 9-18-19
A WOMAN reported that her vehicle was damaged by gunshots between 3 a.m. and 2:25 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, while it was parked in the 6600 block of North Oshkosh Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to her 2013 Jeep Cherokee parked on the street she discovered a bullet hole in the rear passenger-side window and found a bullet in the backseat, according to police. No injuries were reported, police said.
A MAN WAS arrested for allegedly attacking a woman on a train at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, as it approached the Jefferson Park CTA Blue Line station, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The elderly woman reported that she was riding the train when an unknown man punched her in the face, and a witness reported that she heard the man say "you better call the police" before punching the other woman, according to police. Witnesses pointed officers toward the man as he exited at the Jefferson Park stop and went up to the Metra train platform, and he was arrested at about 12:45 a.m. after he was identified, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Christopher S. Ford, age 30, of unknown address.
A MAN WAS arrested on gun charges at about 10:50 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, in the 7500 block of West Addison Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of two suspicious people examining garages in the alley of Addison and stopped a vehicle with two occupants matching a description and one of them was detained after he walked away during the stop and entered a nearby liquor store and allegedly threw an object into a trash can and was arrested after officers discovered that the object was a loaded, unregistered 9mm handgun, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Curtis J. Riverside, age 28, of the 7600 block of West Addison Street.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Jewel-Osco grocery store, 4729 N. Central Ave., reported that a shoplifter struck him with a vehicle at about 12:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that he saw a woman leave the store without paying for $200 worth of items, and that when he confronted the woman while she loaded the items into her Jeep she ran into the driver’s seat and drove away north on Central with the rear passenger seat still open, which struck the man’s left arm, according to police.
The woman was described as white, age 40 to 43, about 5-8 and 230 pounds, with brown bun-style hair, and wearing glasses, a blue tank top with lettering and blue jeans.
THREE MALES were arrested for allegedly entering parked vehicles and a garage at about 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, in the 4600 block of North LaPorte Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of three suspicious males who were ringing doorbells and possibly "casing" properties in the area, and they a man fitting the description who was sitting in the driver’s seat of a van that didn’t belong to him, according to police. Upon further investigation officers found two teenage males hiding in the back of a van and discovered that the first man was carrying a stolen item from an additional vehicle parked in a garage that was left open, and the males were arrested on signed complaints, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Giovanni E. Cuevas, age 19, of the 1800 block of North Kedzie Avenue, and two males age 17 and 16.
A MAN REPORTED that his belongings were stolen as he rode a train between 8:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, toward the Cumberland CTA Blue Line station, 5800 N. Cumberland Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he left his backpack on an open seat, and that as he approached his stop he discovered that his backpack valued at $100 and containing his cellphone and two laptop computers valued at $5,200 total was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her belongings were stolen between 6:30 p.m. and 8:50 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, as she slept at the Jefferson Park CTA Transit Center, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she woke up she discovered that her purse containing her cellphone and state ID, LINK and debit cards was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 6000 block of West Montrose Avenue was burglarized at about 11:10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the rear door was forced open and that about $5,000 worth of necklaces, rings and earrings, two pairs of headphones valued at about $760 total, a laptop computer valued at $1,700, a watch valued at $400, an XBox One video game console valued at $300 and $420 worth of video games were missing, according to police.
The downstairs neighbor of the same building reported that he saw an unknown man who was trying to pry open his front door with a screwdriver until he made eye contact and the unknown man fled, police said.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, age 20 to 25, with short black hair, and wearing jeans.
A MAN REPORTED that his house in the 3200 block of North Octavia Avenue was burglarized between 6 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear door was unlocked, and that a bicycle valued at $2,800, an XBox video game console valued at $500, about $500 worth of videogames, a speaker system valued at $150, a bottle of whiskey and three cans of beer were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 5300 block of West Wilson Avenue was burglarized between 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, and 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that her door was unlocked and that three gold rings with precious stones and her house and spare car keys were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his house in the 6100 block of West Byron Street was burglarized at about 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his garage he discovered that his side garage door was dented, and his surveillance camera footage showed that a man tried to open the overhead garage door before he forced the side door open and took five saws valued at $1,000 total, three batteries valued at $150 total, a welder tool valued at $100, an LED flashlight valued at $100 and two impact drivers valued at least at $80 total, according to police.
The man was described as white, age 25 to 35, 5-7 or 5-8.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage to his house in the 5200 block of West Windsor Avenue was burglarized between 10:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, and 7 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his garage he discovered that the side door was damaged and that a laptop computer valued at $200 was missing, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE of Reinberg School, 3425 N. Major Ave., reported that school property was discovered missing following an audit, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported during the audit that they discovered two gray tablet computers valued at $472 each, two tablet computer devices valued at $300 each, two pieces of computer hardware valued at $324 each and a projector valued at $1,140 were missing, according to police.
SEVERAL vehicles were reported stolen between 6 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, and noon Friday, Sept. 13, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Vehicles were reported stolen in the 3400 block of North Osage Avenue, the 4800 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue, the 5000 block of North Long Avenue, the 5700 block of West Leland Avenue and the 7300 block of West Balmoral Avenue, according to police.
SEVERAL vehicles were reportedly burglarized in the area between 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, and 8:10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Vehicular burglaries were reported in the 3800 block of North Marmora Avenue, the 5300 block of West Devon Avenue, the parking lot of XSport Fitness gym, 3212 N. Central Ave., and the parking lot of Happy Foods grocery store, 6783 N. Northwest Highway, according to police.
