Local Crime from 16th District 9-25-13

EMPLOYEES reported that a man attempted to rob the Family Dollar store, 4828 W. Irving Park Road, at about 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 27-year-old employee reported that a man put his hand in his pocket implying that he had a weapon and told him to open the cash register, according to police. The employee said that when he could not open the register, he fled from behind the counter and the man ran out of the store, police said.
The man was described as black, age 30 to 33, 5-6 to 5-7 and 160 to 170 pounds, and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue sweatpants.

A TEENAGER was arrested on assault charges at about 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, in the 4300 block of North Mulligan Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An off-duty Chicago police officer reported that as he was pumping gasoline at a station in the 6300 block of West Montrose Avenue, three men began making gang gestures at him and threatening him, according to police. The officer said that the men fled when he identified himself and that he later found them standing in the street on Mulligan, police said. He said that when he approached the three, two of them fled while the third approached him and threatened him, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as a 17-year-old male.

A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the Jefferson Park CTA terminal, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 52-year-old woman reported that a man took her purse containing her cell phone and $450 in cash, according to police.
The man was described as black, age 30 to 40, 5-11 and 160 pounds.

A MAN WAS shot at about 1:55 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, in the 3800 block of North Mobile Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 18-year-old man reported as that he was riding a bicycle with a friend, he heard a gunshot and a round struck him in the foot, according to police. The man was treated at the Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, police said.

AN EMPLOYEE reported that the Mobile gas station, 4409 N. Central Ave., was robbed at about 1:20 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 43-year-old employee reported that a man displayed a gun took about $150 in cash from the register, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 2:55 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, in the 5400 block of West Lawrence Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 66-year-old woman reported that a man grabbed a chain from her neck and fled to Milwaukee Avenue, according to police.

NUMEROUS THEFTS of catalytic converters from vehicles were reported in the past week, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported between Sept. 20 and Sept. 23 in the 5900 block of West Dakin Street, the 5000 block of Dakin, the 5300 block of West Pensacola Avenue, the 5800 block of Dakin, the 4800 block of West Hutchinson Street, the 5500 block of Pensacola, the 5800 block of West Byron Street, the 4000 block of North Laporte Avenue and the 3900 block of North Long Avenue, according to police.
Thefts were reported between Sept. 17 and Sept. 19 in the 4300 block of North Moody Avenue, the 4700 block of North Linder Avenue, the 4000 block of Moody, the 4500 block of North Meade Avenue, the 5700 block of North Major Avenue, the 6700 block of West Schreiber Avenue, the 4400 block of North Mobile Avenue, the 5000 block of West Berenice Avenue, the 5300 block of West Leland Avenue, the 6700 block of West Imlay Street, the 6600 block of West Hayes Avenue and the 5100 block of West Wilson Avenue, police said.
Thefts were also reported between Sept. 15 and 17 in the 7200 block of West Farwell Avenue, the 4000 block of North Meade Avenue and in the 7100 block of North Mobile Avenue, according to police.
The most commonly targeted vehicles are Chevrolet Cavaliers and Pontiacs, police said.

A TEENAGER reported that his home in the 5100 block of West Hutchinson Street was burglarized at about 4:40 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The teen reported that when he returned home he discovered that the window air conditioning unit had been pushed to the side, and his mother reported that five rings valued at $1,200, four chains valued at $1,300, three bracelets valued at $1,600, a watch valued at $1,000, two Play Station 2 video game consoles valued at $600, an iPhone valued at $300 and 10 video games were missing, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that a $75,000 Caterpillar rubber tire loader was stolen between 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, and 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, from a construction site in the 5200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

A WOMAN reported that her home in the 5400 block of West Berenice Avenue was burglarized at about midnight Sunday, Sept. 22, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she discovered that the basement door had been forced open and that a tape recorder valued at $200, a pair of boxing gloves valued at $20 and a hammer valued at $10 were missing, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that a man stole his laptop computer at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, from his home in the 3200 block of North Major Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 24-year-old man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear door had been forced open and he saw a man running with his laptop computer valued at $1,000, according to police.

A TEENAGER reported that her home in the 4700 block of North Lawler Avenue was burglarized between 11:40 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 17-year-old teenager reported that when she returned home she discovered that a laptop computer valued at $1,200, a 42-inch television set valued at $800, a video game console and jewelry were missing, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that her home in the 6300 block of West Touhy Avenue was burglarized between 8:30 a.m. and 2:20 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the front door had been forced open and that a 42-inch television set was missing, according to police.
