Local Crime from 16th District 9-25-19
A MAN WAS shot at about 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, in the 3200 block of North Natchez Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of person shot and saw a bleeding 18-year-old man at his home and a relative reported he was shot in the left foot and was transported to Loyola University Medical Center where doctors discovered that his he was also shot in the forehead with a small-caliber projectile, according to police.
FOUR MEN were arrested at about 4 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, in the 5000 block of West Touhy Avenue, Skokie, after gunshots were fired in the area, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers from Skokie and Chicago responded to calls of shots fired near Albion and Milwaukee avenues in Niles where a dark colored sport utility vehicle fled, and they saw a black Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV and a black BMW SUV matching a description with several people at a gas station, according to police. The group drove off when they saw the officers but they were able to stop the Jeep while the BMW drove into another gas station, according to police.
Officers heard six to seven gunshots from the vicinity of the BMW, which was believed to be a "diversion," and they searched the Jeep and one male was in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun and another 9mm handgun was on the floorboard, and officers discovered that one of the men had two active warrants in Niles and all four occupants were arrested, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as William Keys, age 25, of the 800 block of New York Street, Zion, who was arrested on gun charges and another man age 23 to 27, whose information was not immediately available at the time of the report. The other suspects were identified as Maurice L. Dixon, age 19, of the 800 block of South Lincoln Avenue, Waukegan, who was arrested on active warrants, and Myles Irby, age 29, of the 1500 block of W. Henry Court, who was the driver and was cited for traffic offenses.
SHOTS WERE fired at about 1:20 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, in an alley in the 5700 block of West Henderson Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A woman reported that she heard several gunshots overnight and discovered seven spent .380-caliber bullet casings in the alley later that morning, and a caller reported that shots were fired in the area at about 1:20 a.m., according to police.
EMPLOYEES of the Citibank, 3535 N. Central Ave., reported that the bank was robbed at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported that two men entered the bank and one man placed his arms around her, led her to the counter and said "don’t move, look forward" before he handed a second employee a note, and that when the teller disregarded the note the man said "open your drawer and give me all your cash" and the teller handed over $500 in $20 bills and they fled in a gray or black Ford Explorer, according to police.
Both men were described as white/ Hispanic and age 20 to 30.
A MAN REPORTED that a woman fired gunshots at about 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, in an alley in the 5100 block of West Roscoe Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he was in his garage when he saw a woman raise a blue steel-colored handgun and fire two shots into the air, and that when he asked her what she was doing the woman replied "I have a concealed carry" and continued walking west through the alley and he recovered two spent 9mm bullet casings, according to police.
The woman was described as white/Hispanic, about age 30, approximately 5-8 and 250 pounds, with long black hair, and wearing a black dress and brown boots.
EMPLOYEES of the Sprint Store, 5316 N. Milwaukee Ave., reported that a man attempted to rob the store at about 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Two employees reported that a man entered the store and asked about phones they were selling and they went to the rear cashier counter when then man said, "Step away from the cameras, this is an armed robbery, I have a gun," and he motioned to his black shoulder bag and demanded phones, according to police. The employees reported that they refused to give up any phones and the man ran away north on Milwaukee, police said.
The man was described as black, age 25 to 28, about 5-6 or 5-7, and wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and dark blue jeans.
A MAN REPORTED that a man attacked him at about 2 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, in the 6800 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 69-year-old man reported that he was walking home from a bar when an unknown man accosted him and shoved him to the ground, causing serious pain to his left chest, and the man was transported to Community First Medical Center where doctors discovered that he had a moderately collapsed lung, according to police.
The assailant was described as white, age in his 20’s, and Polish speaking.
A MAN WAS arrested on gun and aggravated battery charges at about 7 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, in the 5300 block of North Delphia Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers conducted a search warrant after the man was identified in a previous shooting incident and he was arrested, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Stanislaw Grabala, age 63, of the 5300 block of North Delphia Avenue.
AN OFF-DUTY police officer reported that a man threatened him in an apparent road rage incident at about 8 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, in the 5300 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The officer reported that he was driving south on Milwaukee when a man in a gray 2005 Toyota vehicle cut him off and exchanged words with him, and that as they continued driving south the other man pulled over on Milwaukee and threw a bottle at the officer’s vehicle before making a U-turn, and the officer turned around and followed the Toyota to an alley in the 5300 block of North Manila Avenue, according to police.
In the alley the man retrieved a metal pipe from his trunk and brandished it toward the officer, who then declared his office and drew his weapon and the man dropped the pipe and drove away south toward Northwest Highway, police said.
The man was described as white/ Hispanic, age 45 to 50.
OFFICERS recovered several weapons and ammunition following a call of a disturbance at about 12:40 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, in the 3900 block of North Oriole Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man reported that he had a party and that a guest became intoxicated and later returned with an AR-15 rifle and allegedly threatened people and he was detained by police but later released, according to police.
Officers searched the man’s home and in addition to the assault rifle they found a handgun, a shotgun, 50 rounds of rifle ammunition and more than 1,000 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and authorities are working to revoke the man’s Firearm Owner’s ID card, police said.
A TEENAGER was arrested for allegedly stealing mail from a post office worker and for drug possession at about 11:50 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, in the 3600 block of North Cicero Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers were stopped in traffic on Cicero when they saw a male exit the front passenger seat of a Honda CRV stopped in front of them and the male took two parcels from an unattended US Postal Service cart as the mail carrier stopped into a business, and officers detained the man and two other females who were in the Honda, according to police.
During a search officers discovered that the man was carrying 14 pills that were suspected of being Xanax and he was arrested while the women were released, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as a 17-year-old male.
A TEENAGER was arrested for allegedly burglarizing a vehicle and possessing stolen property in the 3400 block of North Natoma Avenue at about 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man reported that his neighbor was walking his dog and notified him that he noticed a male looking into vehicles, and he walked to the rear alley and saw a teenage male was carrying his backpack that was inside his parked vehicle, and that when he confronted the teen he ran away and he chased the teen until he caught and held him on scene until police arrived, according to police. The teen was searched and found to be in possession of 16 hydrocodone pills stolen, three bank cards and a gift card stolen, and a car key, a bluetooth speaker, a bulk amount of coins and more than 100 tablets of medication whose owners were not yet found at the time of the report, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as a 13-year-old male.
A TEENAGER was arrested for allegedly trying to break into a woman’s house in the 7200 block of West Olive Avenue at about 9:50 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A woman reported that she saw a male open her rear sliding door and then attempt to open the second inner door when she made eye contact with the male and he ran away, and officers detained a male fitting a description as he was walking from a backyard in the 7200 block of West Seminole Avenue, and he was arrested after he was identified, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as a 14-year-old male.
A WOMAN reported that her purse was stolen at about 11:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, in the 3800 block of North Long Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 54-year-old woman reported that a man grabbed her left shoulder and took her purse containing her driver’s license, debit card and various papers before the man ran away east through an alley of Berenice Avenue, according to police.
The man was described as black, age 18 to 25, 5-6 to 5-8, 180 to 200 pounds, and wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt.
THREE businesses located in a strip mall at 5050 N. Cicero Ave. were burglarized at about 3:45 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported that when he returned to work he discovered that the glass front door valued at about $500 shared between two other restaurants was shattered, and that about $150 worth of coin rolls were missing from the drawer, according to police. A surveillance camera footage showed that a man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and gloves exited the passenger side of a silver four-door sedan, entered one of the restaurant and unsuccessfully tried to move a safe before he fled, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 7700 block of West Columbia Avenue was burglarized and that his vehicle was stolen between 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, and 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to the garage he discovered that the side and overhead garage doors were opened, and that his silver Honda S2000 convertible was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported vandalism and a possible burglary attempt to her house in the 7700 block of West Birchwood Avenue between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
