Local Crime from 17th District 1-20-18
A MAN WAS shot at about 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, in the 3600 block of West Wilson Avenue, and a teenager was shot at the same time in the 4500 block of North Central Park Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A 23-year-old man reported that he was walking out of an alley west of the intersection of North Central Park Avenue and Wilson Avenue and he heard shouting followed by the sound of gunshots, and he felt pain in his upper right chest and discovered that he had been shot, according to police.
Officers discovered that a 16-year-old teenager had also been shot and the teen reported that as he was walking with a 17-year-old teenage male, a man walked up behind him, started shouting at him and then fired approximately eight gunshots at him and shot him in his lower right leg before he fled west on Wilson Avenue, police said. The officers reported that they recovered eight spent shell casings in the 4500 block of North Central Park Avenue, according to police.
The teen and the man were transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital and treated for minor gunshot wounds, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, in the 4300 block of North Kedzie Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 26-year-old man reported that after he left work a man exited his vehicle, approached him and said, "I got a gun in my right jacket pocket. I know you guys got paid today, I’m not scared to blow your head off. Jail is my game," according to police. The man reported that after he saw what appeared to be a gun in the man’s right jacket pocket, he gave him $350 and the man entered his vehicle and drove away, police said.
The suspect was described as Hispanic, age 20 to 25, about 5-9 and wearing a black hooded jacket, according to police.
A TEENAGER was arrested after he allegedly robbed a woman and threatened her with a knife at about 4:55 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, in the 3700 block of West Eastwood Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Officers on patrol saw a teenager throw a woman to the ground take her purse and chased after him and, according to police. The 58-year-old woman reported that the teenager threatened her with a knife before he threw her to the ground and took her purse containing a Samsung Galaxy cell phone valued at $150 and $12 in cash, police said. The teenager was arrested after officers found the woman’s purse hanging on the top of a fence in the rear yard of a residence on Eastwood and then located him in the front of the residence with the woman’s cell phone in his left coat pocket, and discovered a knife and her cell phone case on the ground, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as a 17-year-old Hispanic teenage male.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, in the 3400 block of West Lawrence Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 59-year-old man reported that as he was walking on the sidewalk, someone approached him from behind, struck him in the head with an unknown object and took his cell phone and wallet containing $100 in cash, credit cards and his social security card, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that three men attempted to rob him at about 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, in the 4300 block of West Cullom Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 53-year-old man reported that as he was walking, three men exited a black Chevrolet Blazer and approached him from behind, and that one of the men grabbed him by his jacket, demanded his wallet and lifted up his jacket as if he had a handgun and said, "Give me your wallet or I’ll shoot," while the other two men surrounded him, according to police. The man reported that he pushed the man away and ran inside his residence and called the police, police said.
The suspects were described as Hispanic, age 17 to 19, and that the man who implied he had a handgun was about 5-6, 150 pounds with freckles on his forehead and a scar on his face and wearing a black coat with a blue hooded jacket underneath, and one of the other men was described as wearing a black jacket with a fur hood.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Metro PCS store, 3238 N. Pulaski Road, reported that the business was robbed at gunpoint at about 12:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 37-year-old employee reported that a man entered the store wearing a blue ski mask and asked about phones, and that he placed a chrome revolver with a brown handle on the counter, said that he was robbing the store and took $196 in cash before he fled, according to police.
The suspect was described as Hispanic, age 45 to 60, and wearing a blue jean jacket with a gray hooded jacket underneath, blue jeans, tan boots and black gloves.
The same store was also robbed during an incident that occurred on Wednesday, Dec. 20.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was stolen at gunpoint about 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, in the parking lot of the Panda Express restaurant, 6201 N. Lincoln Ave., according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that he left the keys inside the ignition of his 2005 Mazda 6 with the engine running, exited the vehicle and entered the restaurant to order food, and that after he received his food and was standing at the front door of the restaurant, he saw a man in the driver’s seat of his vehicle who was pointing what appeared to be a handgun at him who then drove away in his vehicle, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that a man fired a handgun at him that struck his vehicle at about 11:10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, in the 4300 block of North Troy Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 23-year-old man reported that as he was transporting items from his vehicle into his residence, a man driving a gold Chevrolet Trailblazer automobile with another male passenger stared at him as he drove past, and that the men drove back past him and the driver fired two shots from a handgun at him and struck his vehicle, according to police.
The suspects were described as Hispanic and age 22 to 27, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was stolen in the 3300 block of West Sunnyside Avenue and another man reported that a man robbed him at gunpoint in the 3100 block of West Leland Avenue in related incidents that happened between 9:35 p.m. and 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 20-year-old man reported that as he was walking toward his dark blue 2014 Nissan Sentra, three men approached him and one of the men struck him twice in the face with a handgun while the other men searched his clothing and took his wallet and car keys from him, and that all three men entered his vehicle and drove away, according to police.
A 33-year-old man reported that as he was walking home from work, a man approached him, pointed a blue steel handgun at him and said in Spanish, "Sir, give me your money," and then took his wallet containing $700 in cash before he entered the passenger side of a dark-colored Nissan automobile, police said.
Officers saw a vehicle that matched a description and that when they attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to stop and the officers pursued the vehicle unsuccessfully westbound on North Kedzie Avenue and then south on West Leland Avenue, where the vehicle almost struck responding officers, police said.
Officers located the vehicle at about 11:30 p.m. in the 2800 block of West Eastwood Avenue, according to police.
The first man was described as Hispanic, age 18 to 20, about 5-5 and 130 pounds, and wearing a blue or black hooded jacket, a black knit hat and black jeans, the second man was described as Hispanic, about 6-0, and wearing a red jacket, black jeans and a black ski mask, and the third man was described as black and wearing a blue jacket, black jeans and a black knit hat.
LINCOLNWOOD
A MAN WAS arrested on drug and other charges at about 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the Shell gas station, 7201 Cicero Ave., according to Lincolnwood police.
A gas station employee reported that a man was loitering on the property asking customers for money or a ride and also trying to sell a computer monitor, according to police. The man told police that he was stranded, and officers smelled marijuana and when they asked him if he was carrying drugs, he gave them two bags containing a substance suspected of being marijuana and a bag with an Alprazolam pill, police said.
Officers discovered the man had an active arrest warrant for with the Chicago Police Department and arrested him, and upon further search found a bag with suspected cocaine as well as stolen mail, including an Illinois Supreme Court attorney’s registration card belonging to a 60-year-old man who later signed theft complaints, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Marcos Lopez, age 24, of the 1600 block of West Devon Avenue, Chicago.
A MAN WAS charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following his arrest at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, in the 6500 block of North Lincoln Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
Officers saw a 2015 General Motors Yukon sport utility vehicle stopped behind a Nissan sport utility vehicle at a green light by Devon and Lincoln avenues, and the driver of the Nissan exited the vehicle, showed a badge identifying himself as an off-duty Chicago police officer and reported to the officers that the driver of the Yukon was tailgating him, according to police. During the conversation the Yukon drove off, and officers observed the car swerving and failing to use turn signals and eventually pulled it over on Lincoln Avenue, according to police. The drive was arrested after he was unable to provide proof of insurance and failed field sobriety tests, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Mohammad Ahmad, age 49, of the 4400 block of Estes Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED that his sister’s car was stolen between 11 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, and 4:30 a.m. the following day, while it was parked in the 3300 block of West Columbia Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
The man reported that his sister’s 2014 Porsche Cayenne valued at about $70,000 was parked in front of the house and later discovered missing, that he had the car keys in his possession and locked the car doors, and that no broken glass or signs of forcible entry were found in the vicinity, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, and 7:45 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, in the 3900 block of West Lunt Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
The 69-year-old man reported that he discovered that his 2009 Mercedes-Benz ML350 had been ransacked and that two black jackets worth $200 total and a wallet containing two credit cards, a driver’s license and $230 in cash were missing, according to police.
