Local Crime from 17th District 10-12-19
A man was arrested for allegedly robbing a woman at about 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, in the 3700 block of West Leland Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A woman reported that a man approached her from behind, wrapped his arm around her neck and put an unknown sharp object to her neck and demanded her cellphone, and that when she refused he started to choke her until she threw the phone away and he picked it up, according to police.
The woman reported that she followed the man as he walked away until she was able to alert officers who arrested the man in an alley the 3700 block of West Lawrence Avenue, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Juan Zetina, age 36, of the 4200 block of North Troy Street.
A man reported that he was robbed at about 10:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, in the 4700 block of North Troy Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 33-year-old man reported that a man struck him twice in the head with a rubber mallet and took his bag containing snacks and drinks and cellphone, according to police.
The man was described as white, age 18 to 21, about 5-10 and 180 pounds, and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black pants.
A man reported that a man threatened him with a knife during an apparent road-rage related incident at about 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, in the parking lot of the Restaurant Depot store, 5836 N. Pulaski Road, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 34-year-old man reported that he honked his horn at a man who was erratically driving a truck through the store’s parking lot and the man exited his truck and pointed a knife and threatened, according to police.
The man was described as black/Hispanic, age 25 to 40, about 5-9 and 200 pounds, with shaved hair.
A woman reported that a maintenance worker threatened her at her apartment in the 4700 block of North Monticello Avenue at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 20-year-old woman reported that a woman started banging on her rear door with a baseball bat and demanding in Spanish for the occupants to come out, and that she recognized the woman as having done maintenance work for the building in the past, according to police.
The woman was described as about 5-7 or 5-8, 130 to 140 pounds, with brown eyes, curly brown hair and an olive-colored skin complexion.
A man reported that his apartment in the 4800 block of North Troy Street was burglarized between 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, and 6:20 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that a side window screen was pushed in and two bedroom doors were damaged, and that three gold wedding bands valued at $600 total, a silver watch valued at $250, six pairs of gold earrings valued at $200, a graduation ring, a gold necklace and a pair of white pearl earrings were missing, according to police.
A couple reported that the basement to their home in the 3300 block of North Troy Street was burglarized at about 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The couple reported that their basement was unsecured and covered by a tarp due to a home project, and that when the man returned home they discovered that the tarp was cut and that numerous drills, a chop saw and a saw stand valued at about $800 total were missing, according to police. A neighbor’s surveillance camera footage captured two men carrying items from the backyard of the house to a red pickup truck in the alley at about 1 p.m., police said.
A woman reported that her apartment in the 4300 block of North Kimball Avenue was burglarized between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned she discovered that a brick was thrown through her rear window, and that a 43-inch smart television and a 32-inch combination television and DVD player were missing, according to police.
A man reported that his apartment in the 3300 block of North Hamlin Avenue was burglarized between 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, and noon Monday, Sept. 30, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that his roommate’s girlfriend checked on the house while they were away and that on Sept. 30 she discovered that a window air conditioning unit was pushed in and that two Xbox video games valued at $80 were missing, according to police.
A man reported that his apartment in the 3000 block of West Addison Street was burglarized between 8:40 a.m. and 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear doors to both his building and his apartment unit were open, a window air conditioning unit was pushed in and two bedrooms were ransacked, and that him and his roommate were unsure what items were missing at the time of the report, according to police.
