Local Crime from 17th District 10-21-17
A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly broke into a woman’s apartment and attempted to steal her bicycle at about 8:05 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, in the 3500 block of North Troy Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 31-year-old woman reported that she heard the sound of glass breaking and that when she looked out the window, she saw a man exit the front door of her building with her bicycle, according to police. The woman reported that when she exited the building to pursue the man she discovered a glass pane on the door had been shattered and saw that there was blood everywhere, police said. The woman reported that she chased after the man and retrieved her bicycle in the 3500 block of North Leavitt Street, and a responding officer arrested a man who matched a description who was walking eastbound in the 1600 block of West Addison Street, police said.
The man was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital and treated for a cut to his right hand, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Juan Salaman, age 27, of the 3600 block of West Waveland Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED he was attacked at about 11:25 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, in the 3900 block of North Central Park Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 19-year-old man reported that while he was walking home with a 21-year-old man, a man ran up from behind and wrapped his arm around his neck in a chokehold and demanded his cell phone, according to police. The man reported that he broke free of the man’s grip and that the men reached into his pocket without taking before he ran away, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that two men attacked him and attempted to rob him at about 12:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, in the 3600 block of West Montrose Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 42-year-old man reported that he exited an Uber vehicle and two men attacked him from behind and demanded his possessions, according to police. A witness reported that when she saw the two men attacking the man, she yelled at them to stop and they ran away before without taking anything, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked by a group of men in an apparent gang-related incident at about 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, in the 5200 block of North Christiana Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 26-year-old man reported that a woman called him toward her and that when he approached her, a group of six men grabbed him, pushed him to the ground and restrained him while some of the men hit him with metal poles as they shouted gang slogans, according to police.
The man was transported to Swedish Covenant Hospital and treated for minor injuries, police said.
A WOMAN REPORTED that her former boyfriend stole her vehicle and attempted to strike her with it at about 8:35 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, in the 5600 block of North Spaulding Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 24-year-old woman reported that as she was attempting to retrieve her vehicle from her former 36-year-old boyfriend and her belongings from his apartment, they started arguing and the man threw her items out of a window before he exited the apartment and drove off in her vehicle, according to police. The woman reported that she exited the apartment and was standing next to her other vehicle on the street when the man drove towards her with the vehicle and attempted to drive into her while she moved out of the way and struck her parked vehicle and another parked vehicle, police said.
A TEENAGER was arrested at about 3:05 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, after he allegedly threatened a police officer during an investigation at Schurz High School, 3601 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A witness reported that she saw a person fire several shots from a handgun near the school at about 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, in the 3500 block of North Kildare Avenue, before he entered a vehicle and drove away, and a responding officer reported that one live 22-caliber bullet and two spent shell casings were recovered at the scene, according to police.
A school employee reported that a student told her that he thought he was the intended target of the shooting, police said.
Officers reported that when they arrived to meet with school officials to investigate the incident on Oct. 18, a crowd of students formed around them outside the school and that when they told the students to step back and to disperse from the sidewalk, a student was arrested after he threatened one of them, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as a 15-year-old teenage male.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 3200 block of North Lawndale Avenue was burglarized at about 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the front door had been opened and the lock had been broken and that a Samsung 75-inch television set, two white fur coats, two Prada purses, three Coach purses, three Armani purses and two Michael Kors purses were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 4100 block of West Addison Street was burglarized between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the kitchen door had been unlocked and that a Vizio 55-inch television set valued at $590, a Sony Play Station 4 video game console and two controllers valued at $480, a watch valued at $380 and $80 in cash were missing, according to police.
LINCOLNWOOD
AN EMPLOYEE reported that the Loeber Motors Porsche dealership, 7101 N. Lincoln Ave., was broken into between 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, and 3:10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, according to Lincolnwood police.
The employee reported that he received a phone call from the dealership’s alarm company stating that the southeast service door alarm had been activated, and that when he arrived at the business he discovered that the service door window had been broken, according to police. The employee reported that no items appeared to be missing or out of place, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that two vehicles were broken into between 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, in the driveway of his home in the 6400 block of North Christiana Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
The man reported that when he and a friend returned to their vehicles, he discovered they had been entered and searched through but nothing was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, and 6:15 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, while it was parked in the driveway of his home in the 3300 block of West Columbia Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
The man reported that when he returned to his vehicle he discovered that loose change and a watch valued between $500 and $800 were missing, according to police.
