Local Crime from 17th District 11-3-18
SHOTS WERE FIRED at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, in the 4300 block of West Roscoe Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A 47-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman reported that they were inside their parked vehicle when a red sport utility vehicle drove by and one of its five occupants fired gunshots, shattering both rear windows, before the sport utility vehicle drove away east on Roscoe, according to police. No injuries were reported, police said.
All five men were described as white/Hispanic.
EMPLOYEES of the Verizon store, 4183 W. Irving Park Road, reported that the store was robbed at gunpoint at about 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A an employee reported that when he returned to work he discovered that his coworker was tied up after being robbed at gunpoint by two men, and that the men stole 26 iPhones valued at $26,000, 23 LG phones valued at $17,400, nine Samsung Galaxy phones valued at $10,000, and 10 iPad tablet devices valued at $6,500, according to police.
Video footage showed that the men drove away in a tan Chevrolet Cruze, and that they may have transferred some of the proceeds to a white Buick Enclave sport utility vehicle driven by a possible third accomplice, police said. A tracker on one of the stolen phones showed that the men discarded some proceeds in the 1300 block of West Evergreen Avenue and the 1300 block of West Division Street, according to police.
The men were both described as black, age 18 to 25, about 5-8 to 6-0 and 155 to 175 pounds.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed in an apparent gang-related incident at about 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, in the 4600 block of North Elston Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 18-year-old man reported that he was walking his bike on the sidewalk when four men surrounded him and one man asked his gang affiliation and choked him, and that he felt a "cold" object behind his ear and a man threatened to shoot him as he blacked out from being choked, according to police. The man reported that when he woke up he discovered that his black bicycle, a pack of cigarettes and a wallet containing miscellaneous identifications and cards were missing, police said.
A MAN WAS arrested for allegedly breaking into a home in the 3400 block of West Berteau Avenue and threatening her at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A woman reported that a man forced his way through her rear door and she called police as she hid in a closet, and that the man threatened her with a crowbar and then fled through the rear door after she said she called in police, according to police. Responding officers saw the man fleeing and arrested him in the 4100 block of North Bernard Avenue after a foot chase, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Jose Rodriguez, age 35, of the 3400 block of West Ohio Street.
AN EMPLOYEE of a Home Depot store, 6211 N. Lincoln Ave., reported that a shoplifter threatened him with a knife at about 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that he saw a woman placing store merchandise including gloves, two flashlights, bolt cutters, pliers and a knife into a backpack and that when he confronted her she displayed the stolen knife and made slashing movements toward him before she ran away north on Lincoln, according to police.
The woman was described as age 25 to 30, about 5-4 and 120 pounds, with grey eyes, long black hair, a light skin complexion, and wearing a light blue dress, a black leather jacket and tan boots.
A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked at about 11:10 a.m. Thursday, Oct.25, in the 4000 block of North Kedzie Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 56-year-old man reported that he was walking when a man approached and asked him for money and when he replied no the man struck him in the head with a stick before fleeing, according to police. The man was transported to Swedish Covenant Hospital for treatment, police said.
The man was described as black/Hispanic, age 20 to 30, and approximately 5-8 and 220 pounds.
A MAN REPORTED that a man attempted to break into his apartment in the 4000 block of West Montrose Avenue at about 7:40 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that as he was returning to his apartment stairs he saw a man attempting to open his rear door, and that when he asked the man what he was doing the man pushed past him and ran away and he chased the man until he threw a rock at him, according to police.
The man was described as white or Middle Eastern, age 26 to 27, about 5-7 and 140 to 145 pounds, with brown eyes, natural-style black hair, a fair skin complexion, and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark blue khaki pants and black gym shoes.
A WOMAN reported that she was the victim of a scam at about 3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at her home in the 2800 block of West Leland Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that a man knocked on her door and said he was installing a neighbor’s fence and that they walked into her backyard to discuss whether he could park in her garage "during construction," and that when the man left and she returned inside she discovered that a silver and diamond engagement ring, two pairs of silver earrings, a vintage gold watch and a sterling silver pin were missing, according to police.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, age 30 to 35, with short black hair and a medium skin complexion.
A COUPLE and a man reported that two apartments in a building in the 3200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue were burglarized between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A couple reported that they left their apartment at 10:30 a.m. and when the man returned home at 7:15 p.m. he discovered that the front door was pried open and that three laptop computers valued at $3,150, a Play Station 4 videogame console valued at $400, a pair of earrings valued at $200, a topaz gemstone valued at $100 and two backpacks valued at $80 were missing, according to police.
A man from a different apartment in the same building reported that he left home at 9 a.m. and that when he returned home at 9 p.m. he discovered that the front door had been opened and that a laptop computer valued at $4,000, a Nintendo Wii videogame console valued at $300 and a television set valued at $250 were missing, police said.
TWO MEN and two women reported that their apartment in the 4100 block of West Newport Avenue was burglarized between 3 and 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
An officer translated for the men and women who reported in Spanish that when one of the men returned home he discovered that the rear door was open with damage to the latch and numerous bedrooms were unlocked and that a cell phone, various necklaces and earrings valued at $3,000 and $2,500 in cash were missing, according to police.
A COUPLE reported that their home in the 3000 block of West Roscoe Street was burglarized between 7:20 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The couple reported that when the woman returned home she discovered that the front door had been forced open with pry marks to the door frame, and that 34 necklaces valued at $600, 15 pairs of earrings valued at $300, 10 bracelets valued at $200, nine watches valued at $550, five rings valued at $200,a laptop computer valued at $700, a Nikon camera valued at $350, a backpack valued at $50 and $200 in cash were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 3900 block of West School Street was burglarized between 8:15 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered a side bedroom window open and two watches valued at $3,000 and four pairs of Michael Jordan sneakers valued at $800 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his apartment in the 3600 block of West Cornelia Avenue was burglarized at about 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that that a laptop computer valued at $1,200 and an iPad tablet device valued at $500 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 3500 block of West Belmont Avenue was burglarized between midnight and 6 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she woke up she discovered that her living room window was open and that her front door was unlocked, and that two laptop computers, a computer tablet device, three schoolbooks and various jackets and articles of clothing were missing, according to police.
