Local Crime from 17th District 3-3-18
A MAN WAS SHOT at about 4:40 p.m. Friday, March 2, in the 5000 block of North Kedvale Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 18-year-old man reported that he was walking with his friend when a maroon Nissan Rogue stopped in the street and three men exited and one man fired several shots at them from a 9mm handgun with one bullet striking him in the right shoulder and exiting through his jaw, according to police. The man reported that they both ran to his home on North Keystone Avenue from where an ambulance transported him to Illinois Masonic Hospital in serious but stable condition, police said.
A DELIVERY driver reported that he was robbed and attacked with a hammer at about 9:45 p.m. Monday, March 5, in the 4200 block of North Bernard Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 32-year-old man reported that he was delivering pizza and chicken wings when a woman and man with a child age 7 to 10 approached him on the front porch and that the woman demanded money and struck him in the left side of the forehead with a hammer, according to police. The man reported that he gave them about $40 in cash and his cell phone and that the man brandished an unknown tool and said "that’s not enough, he’s got more," and that the child told him not to run because the man had a gun, police said.
The man reported that he then ran through a nearby alley to his delivery vehicle and drove to his place of employment from where an ambulance transported him to Swedish Covenant Hospital in serious condition, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Subway restaurant, 4303 W. Irving Park Road, reported that the business was robbed at gunpoint at about 12:40 a.m. Friday, March 2, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The employee reported that two men entered the restaurant and both pointed guns at him, demanded cash and he handed them about $70 to $80 from the register, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was cut with a knife at about 3:15 a.m. Sunday, March 4, in the 3600 block of West Lawrence Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 31-year-old man reported that he was walking when a person approached him from behind and cut him on the neck, according to police. The man was treated at Swedish Covenant Hospital, police said.
A MAN and a woman reported that shots were fired at them at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 3, in an alley in the 3400 block of West Montrose Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 24-year-old man and 18-year-old woman reported that they were walking west through an alley when they saw a red sport utility vehicle parked in the alley with two men facing them and that the front passenger exited the car and pointed a handgun at them and they heard one or two shots but were not hit as they ran away, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his car was stolen at gunpoint at about 4:30 a.m. Monday, March 5, from the parking lot of a 7-Eleven store, 4346 N. Kimball Ave., according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 49-year-old man reported that he was sitting in his 2015 Honda Civic with the door open when a man pointed a black gun to his head and demanded him to leave, and that the man drove his Honda south on Kimball, according to police.
Officers discovered the vehicle the next day at about 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, in the 4100 block of North Drake Avenue, and when discovered that it was stolen it was returned to the owner, police said. A man reported that he saw a man park the stolen vehicle at about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. March 6, and run south on Drake, according to police.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, age 23 to 26, about 5-4 to 5-8 and with short black hair.
SHOTS were fired at about 11:40 p.m. Monday, March 5, in the 4200 block of North Kimball Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Officers responded to calls of shots fired in the area of Kimball and West Cullom Avenue and recovered 10 bullet casings from by the mouth of an alley by Kimball, according to police.
SHOTS were fired at about 5:15 p.m. Sunday, March 4, in the 4300 block of North Saint Louis Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A 61-year-old man reported that he was looking out his living room window when he saw a black sport utility vehicle driving south on Saint Louis, and that the driver shot at the northwest corner of Saint Louis and West Cullom avenues, according to police. Officers recovered two bullet casings, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that he was threatened with a handgun at about 5:15 p.m. Sunday, March 4, in the parking lot of the Chicago Produce market, 3500 W. Lawrence Ave., according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 20-year-old man reported that he was in his vehicle exiting the store’s parking lot when four people in a khaki-colored sedan behind him started making gang symbols at him and that one man exited the sedan and approached his window and pointed a silver-colored handgun at him, and that the man fled after a police vehicle drove by on Lawrence, according to police.
The armed man was described as Hispanic with a light skin complexion, about age 25, approximately 5-6 and 140 pounds, with short black hair.
A WOMAN reported that she was threatened with a knife at about 12:40 p.m. Monday, March 5, in the 3000 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 47-year-old woman reported that she was on delivering mail when a man approached her swinging a knife, and that she escaped by running to her vehicle and driving back to the post office, according to police.
The man was described as age 55 to 60, about 5-9 and 200 pounds, with straight partially grayed hair and an olive-colored skin complexion.
AN EMPLOYEE of the United States Postal Service office, 3319 N. Cicero Ave., reported that a man threatened him with a baseball bat at about 4:40 p.m. Monday, March 5, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that a man came into the post office and demanded for a check that was supposed to be mailed to his home, and that he recognized the man as someone who comes in every month and is told every time he cannot pick up mail at the post office, according to police. The manager reported that the man then became angry, walked to his newer-model Honda Odyssey, took out a baseball bat and threatened him before leaving, according to police.
LINCOLNWOOD
A MAN WAS charged with driving under the influence following his arrest at about 4 a.m. Monday, March 5, in the 3300 block of West Touhy Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
Officers saw a 2014 Toyota Tundra pickup truck swerving in the lanes in the 4300 block of West Touhy Avenue and stopped the vehicle in the 3300 block of Touhy and the driver was arrested after he failed sobriety tests, according to police.
The suspect was identified as Gilberto Rico-Limas, age 40, of the 7400 block of North Ashland Avenue.
A MAN WAS charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following his arrest at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday, February 22, in the 6800 block of North McCormick Boulevard, according to Lincolnwood police.
Officers responded to a three-vehicle crash and a 26-year-old woman reported that a man driving a 2000 Ford Econoline van that was involved in the accident fled the scene, according to police. Officers discovered that a man matching a description returned to the scene of the accidents but e denied involvement in the crash, according to police. Officers searched the man and found keys that fit the van, and the man was arrested after he failed sobriety tests, police said. The man was charged with aggravated driving on a revoked license and two counts of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, according to police.
The suspect was identified as Angel Tostado, age 54, of the 2800 block of West Howard Street.
