Local Crime from 17th District 4-21-18
AN EMPLOYEE reported that the T-Mobile store, 3951 N. Kimball Ave., was robbed at gunpoint at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The employee reported that two masked men entered the store and that when he tried to hide in a rear room a man grabbed him and hit him in the face with a handgun and that they forced him to open the rear room safe and threatened to kill him after he got the safe combination wrong, according to police. The employee reported that he loaded a bag with seven to 12 iPhones from the safe and that he was told to not look at them and lie on the floor as they fled east on Irving Park Road before entering a vehicle, according to police.
Officers were able to track one of the phones to the vicinity of Irving Park Road and Central Avenue, and officers found a black bag possibly containing the men’s clothing on the ground near the intersection of Dakin Street and Linder Avenue, according to police.
Officers also recovered a bag containing some of the stolen phones in the bathroom of the Taqueria Amigo Chino restaurant, 5601 W. Irving Park Road, and witnesses reported seeing the men leave the restaurant and head south on Central, according to police. Police said that the suspects are still at large.
The men were described as wearing black hooded sweatshirts, black pants and black masks. The armed man was further described as speaking with a Spanish accent.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 7 p.m. Sunday, April 15, in the 4900 block of North Kimball Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 58-year-old man reported that he was in the lobby of his apartment building when two men approached and one of them pointed a handgun into his side and demanded his wallet, and took his wallet containing three debit cards and $80 in cash, that the man demanded his PIN and he provided a number before they fled, according to police.
In related news, a 46-year-old man reported that he and a 51-year-old woman were robbed and that their car was stolen at gunpoint at about 7:30 p.m. the same night in the 5700 block of North Bernard Street, according to police.
The man reported that he was in his red 2010 Mercury Mariner sport utility and counting money to pay the woman for a construction job when two men approached and one pointed a semiautomatic handgun and demanded his money, wallet and phone, police said. The man reported that that he handed over his iPhone and $2,060 in cash and that the men ordered them out of the car and drove in the vehicle east on Ardmore Avenue, according to police.
In both incidents, one man was described as black, age 18 to 25, approximately 6-0 and 180 to 200 pounds, and wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. The other man was described as black, age 18 to 25, approximately 5-6 to 6-0 and 170 to 200 pounds, and wearing a black jacket with four pockets over a black hooded sweatshirt.
SHOTS were fired at about 11 p.m. Saturday, April 14, in the 4200 block of West Melrose Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Officers on patrol heard gunshots in the area and saw a man with a handgun in his hand that fled through a backyard in the 4200 block of West Melrose Street out of officers’ sight, according to police. About 15 spent bullet casings were found in the area, police said.
The man was described as Hispanic with a light brown skin complexion, approximately 5-5 to 5-8 and 170 to 180 pounds, with short black hair.
SHOTS were fired at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, April 15, near the intersection of North Sacramento Avenue and West Addison Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A 25-year-old resident of a home in the 3000 block of West Addison Street reported that he heard gunfire in the alley behind his house and saw a white sport utility vehicle, possibly a Jeep, speed through the alley after the shots, according to police. Officers discovered a bullet hole in a second floor residence in the 3600 block of North Sacramento Avenue and two bullet holes in the driver’s side of a Toyota RAV 4 sport utility vehicle parked in the 3600 block of North Sacramento Avenue, police said. Officers discovered 10 spent bullet casings in the Addison Street alley, according to police.
TWO MEN reported that they were robbed at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14, in the 4700 block of North Central Park Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A 23-year-old man reported that three men approached and that one man pressed an object believed to be a firearm into his back, threatened to kill him in Spanish, and took his cell phone valued at $800, vehicle keys and wallet, according to police.
A 45-year-old man reported that while his friend was being robbed the two other men punched and kicked him causing swelling to his eyes, and that the men then fled on foot west on Leland Avenue, according to police.
The armed man was described as white/Hispanic, age 18 to 20, approximately 5-11 to 6-1, and wearing a black jacket and grey pants. A description of the other men was not given.
A WOMAN reported that her uncle was robbed at about 1 p.m. Sunday, April 15, in the 5100 block of North Bernard Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman translated for her 66-year-old uncle who reported that he was walking home from church when a man approached from behind with a small handgun and demanded his wallet and cell phone and forced him into a nearby alley, and took his wallet containing a state ID card, a foreign driver’s license and health insurance card, a Ventra transit card, a small prayer book and $54 in cash, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 8 p.m. Saturday, April 14, in the 3400 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 49-year-old man reported that two men approached and punched him in the stomach and nose and took his cell phone, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 3800 block of West Cornelia Avenue was burglarized between noon and 3 p.m. Saturday, April 14, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to her second floor apartment she discovered that the rear door lock had been damaged and that two sets of yellow earrings and $1,000 in cash were missing from her bedroom, according to police.
In related news, a man and woman reported that their basement unit in the same apartment building was burglarized between 1 and 2:30 p.m. that same day, according to police.
The couple reported that when they returned home they discovered that the rear door had been forced open and that jewelry valued at about $4,000 total were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his apartment in the 3300 block of North Kilbourn Avenue was burglarized between 11:30 a.m. and 11 p.m. Saturday, April 14, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear door had been opened and three designer-brand watches, a gold-colored bracelet and four articles of clothing were missing, according to police.
LINCOLNWOOD
A MAN WAS charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following his arrest at about 12:50 a.m. Friday, April 13, in the 6300 block of North Pulaski Road, according to Lincolnwood police.
Officers saw a 2003 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck speeding in the 6500 block of North Crawford Avenue and pulled the truck over in the 6300 block of North Pulaski Road, and the driver failed was arrested after he allegedly failed to show vehicle insurance, displayed to officers a 12-pack of beer missing two cans and failed sobriety tests, according to police.
The suspect was identified as Steven Apple II, age 23, of the 8800 block of North Niles Center Road, Skokie.
