Local Crime from 17th District 8-12-17
AN EMPLOYEE reported that a man attempted to rob the TCF Bank inside the Jewel-Osco store, 4660 W. Irving Park Road, at about 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The employee reported that she saw a man standing in line waiting to make a transaction, and that when she called the man to the counter to assist him, the man handed her a bank slip and a note that read, "This is a robbery, don’t make any sudden moves. Give me everything in the drawer. Any sudden moves I will kill you. Also, I have a gun in my hip," according to police. The employee reported that after asking the man, "Is this for real?" and opened the cash drawer and started to slowly take out money and a dye pack from the till, the man ran away, police said.
The offender was described as black, age 21 to 25 and 5-3, and wearing white bandana, a white "Air Jordan" sweater, red sweat pants and black gym shoes.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, in the 3100 block of West Lawrence Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 40-year-old man reported that while he was walking on the sidewalk, a man stopped in front of him while another man stopped behind him, and that the man in the front cut his pockets with a pair of scissors and took his cell phone, wallet and $50 in cash, according to police.
A MAN WAS stabbed at about 8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, in the 3700 block of West Montrose Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 39-year-old man reported that he was arguing with an acquaintance and that when the argument led to a physical altercation, the man removed a box cutter from his pocket and stabbed him in the right buttocks with it, according to police.
The man was transported to Swedish Covenant Hospital, police said.
A MAN WAS charged with aggravated assault with a handgun and unlawful possession of a handgun following his arrest at about 12:40 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7, in the 3200 block of West Eastwood Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A 19-year-old man and two witnesses reported that while they were driving a man followed them for several blocks and that when they stopped, the driver parked in a nearby alley and threatened them with a handgun that was located inside a lockbox, and the man was arrested when responding officers discovered a backpack containing a lockbox with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol and a magazine with 10 live 9 mm rounds, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Paul B. Badell, age 23, of the 400 block of Culver Road, Knox, Indiana.
AN EMPLOYEE of Mr. Bubble Laundromat, 2815 W. Irving Park Road, reported that a customer threw a service bell at him at about 10:05 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The employee reported that while he was in the rear of the business, a man entered the facility, walked up to the service counter and began to ring the service bell, and that when he approached the man, he became angry, shouted at him, threw the service bell at him and struck him with it, and continued to shout at him before the man took his laundry and fled, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his apartment in the 5000 block of North Sawyer Avenue was burglarized between 6 a.m. and 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that his belongings had been scattered inside his apartment and that five leather jackets and $2,200 in cash were missing, according to police.
TWO WOMEN reported that their apartment in the 4300 block of North Mozart Street was burglarized between 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The women reported that when they returned home they discovered a rear window had been opened and that a silver diamond ring valued at $2,000, an Epson projector and travel bag valued at $1,000, $120 in coins, an iPhone 5 cell phone valued at $100 and two money belts valued at $50 were missing, according to police.
A neighbor reported that when he returned home he noticed that back door to the apartment complex was open and that his wife said she heard footsteps on the back porch at about 6 p.m., and responding officers reported upon their arrival that they discovered a stack of plastic lawn chairs with a foam cooler next to it underneath the opened rear window, and that the window screen was lying on the ground resting against the building, police said.
