Local Crime from 17th District 8-7-19
OFFICERS recovered drugs, weapons and a live alligator after searching home in the 4000 block of North Troy Street at about 9:40 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, according to the Chicago Police Department Office of News Affairs.
A gang investigation division team executed a search warrant of the residence and recovered several firearms, an undisclosed amount of drugs and a 3-foot long alligator, which was turned over to Chicago Animal Care and Control, according to police. The man who was the subject of the warrant remains at large, detectives are investigating, police said.
A MAN WAS arrested on gun charges after he allegedly fled the scene of an accident at about 2:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, in the 4500 block of North Cicero Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Police and fire department personnel responded to a call of a gray 2017 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck that crashed into the median of Cicero Avenue and a male and a female passenger reported that the driver ran away, and officers searched the truck to find a holster containing a loaded 9mm handgun in the backseat, according to police.
Later that day at about 4:30 p.m. police relocated to the driver’s home and arrested and charged him with Class A misdemeanor fleeing the scene of an accident and felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon without a Firearm Owner’s ID or Concealed Carry License, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Vaughn E. Whitaker, age 26, of the 5000 block of North Albany Avenue.
A MAN WAS arrested for alleged possession of a weapon following a chase at about 8:50 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, in the 4500 block of North Saint Louis Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
An off-duty police officer saw three men at the corner of Saint Louis and Sunnyside avenues passing around what appeared to be a handgun while arguing with people in a passing vehicle, and when officers appeared at the scene the men ran away and one man was detained after breaking a fence that he tried to jump over, while the other two men were seen fleeing into an apartment building in the 3400 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, according to police.
Officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun near where the man fell as well as another loaded 9mm handgun from the stairwell of the apartment building, and the man who fell next to the handgun was arrested, charged with felony unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and later treated at Swedish Covenant Hospital for back and knee pain from the fall, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Ernest L. Jackson Jr., age 40, of the 1500 block of East 74th Place. The other two men were described as black.
A TEENAGER reported that she was robbed at gunpoint at about 9:50 p.m. Monday, July 29, the alley in the 4900 block of North Kimball Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 17-year-old female reported that she was trying to sell her cellphone to an acquaintance when the male pulled out what appeared to be a black and silver handgun and demanded her iPhone valued at $1,000, and took the phone and fled, according to police.
The male was described as white with a light complexion, age 17, approximately 5-8 and 160 pounds, with blue eyes and short brown hair.
A MAN REPORTED that his apartment in the 5000 block of North Springfield Avenue was burglarized between 6 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that $8,000 in cash, an unknown amount of gold jewelry and his daughter’s passport were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his apartment in the 4900 block of North Harding Avenue was burglarized sometime before 11:50 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that about $517 worth in foreign currency and an envelope containing $1,650 in cash were missing, according to police.
A MAN AND a woman reported that their apartment in the 3900 block of West Irving Park Road was burglarized between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man and woman reported that when they returned home they discovered that $200 in cash, three pendants valued at $600 total and three yellow rings valued at $400 total were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 4900 block of North Whipple Street was burglarized between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that a diamond necklace valued at $1,000, a white gold crucifix valued at $1,500, a diamond crucifix valued at $500 and a butterfly-shaped ring valued at $200 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his apartment in the 4900 block of North Whipple Street was burglarized between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that his wife returned to the apartment and couldn’t find certain belongings at 9 p.m. Wednesday, and that when he returned home the next day he discovered his doorframe was damaged and two gold necklaces valued at $1,000 and $300 in cash were missing, according to police.
LINCOLNWOOD REPORTS 8-8-19
A MAN REPORTED that his motorcycle was stolen at about 10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, while it was parked in the 6700 block of North Lawndale Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
The man reported that when he returned to his blue and black 2007 Suzuki GSX motorcycle he discovered that it was missing, according to police.
