Local Crime from 17th District 8-7-19
A MAN WAS arrested for allegedly breaking into a home in the 4400 block of North Melvina Avenue at about 4:50 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man reported that he was sleeping on the couch when a neighbor knocked on his opened front door and told him that he just saw a man leaving his backyard, and the man discovered that the rear entry door was also opened, according to police.
Officers detained a man who fit a description and the man was arrested and charged with felony home invasion after he was identified and after the man identified numerous pieces of gold jewelry recovered from the man’s possession from his home, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Andre Adams, age 44, of the 3000 block of North Major Avenue.
AN EMPLOYEE of the CVS Pharmacy, 4777 N. Milwaukee Ave., reported that a shoplifter threatened to shoot her at about 4:50 p.m. Monday, July 29, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that she saw a man take a blue bag valued at $25 and six bottles of body wash valued at $60 without paying, and that she confronted the man, took his cellphone from his pocket and offered to trade the phone back for the stolen items when the man clutched his waist implying that he had a weapon and said "I have a gun, I’m gonna shoot you" and took back his cellphone before fleeing north on Milwaukee, according to police.
The woman reported that she allegedly saw the outline of a gun underneath the man’s clothes, police said.
The man was described as black, age 40 to 48, with short black hair, and wearing a white T-shirt, gray shorts and white gym shoes.
A MAN REPORTED that he found bullets at about 8:50 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, in the 6900 block of West Bryn Mawr Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 51-year-old man reported that he was walking when he found a Sig Sauer-brand magazine containing 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition discarded in the parkway, and officers recovered and inventoried the ammunition, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that a man threatened him with an object at about 10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, in the 4100 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 25-year-old man and a witness reported that a man spat on him on the sidewalk and waved a metal pipe at him, according to police. The 25-year-old did not provide a motive as to why the man may have tried to harm him, police said.
The man was described as black/Hispanic, about age 25, approximately 5-11 and 210 pounds, with short black hair.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Foremost Liquors Store & Tavern, 3210 N. Cicero Ave., reported that he was injured while chasing a group of shoplifters at about 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that he saw a group of three women place three bottles of cognac into their bags without paying and that they shoved a clerk aside as he tried to block their exit, and the employee chased them to their light green 2010 Dodge hatchback and grabbed on the vehicle door to attempt stopping them but they drove away, causing him to fall and hurt his knee, according to police.
The women were all described as black. One woman was further described as age 40 to 50 and about 280 pounds, another as age 30 to 40 and about 220 pounds, and the third female as age 12 to 16 and about 110 pounds.
A WOMAN reported that her house in the 6200 block of West Waveland Avenue was burglarized between 9 a.m. and 12:10 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the rear doorframe was damaged and opened and that a Macbook laptop computer valued at $1700, a Dell laptop computer valued at $700, a jewelry box containing a pearl necklace valued at $350, two wrist watches valued at $300 and two gift cards valued at $50 total were missing, according to police.
A female neighbor reported that at about 11:30 a.m. she saw a silver sedan with front-end damage pull up to the woman’s house and a woman exited the car, rang the front doorbell and then drove away, which may be related to the incident, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that his apartment in the 5300 block of West Waveland Avenue was burglarized between 2 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that his reach porch window and rear door were opened and that a PlayStation 4 video game console, a hard drive and a Samsung tablet computer device were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 3700 block of North Plainfield Avenue was burglarized before 9:30 p.m. Sunday, July 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home from a vacation he discovered that his rear window valued at $200 was broken and that a jar containing $300 worth of coins was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his car was burglarized at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, while it was parked in the 7700 block of West Victoria Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 42-year-old man reported that his doorbell surveillance camera footage showed that a man entered his 2014 GMC Terrain sport utility vehicle and took a backpack valued at $120 containing an HP laptop computer valued at $2,000, according to police.
The man was described as black, 5-11 to 6-0, 190 to 200 pounds, with braided black hair, and wearing a black jacket and black jeans.
In related news, several additional vehicles in the area were also broken into between 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, and 12:10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, according to police. Burglarized vehicles were reported in the 5500 block of West Irving Park Road, the 5600 block of West Windsor Avenue, the 5900 block of West Henderson Street, the 6100 block of West Leland Avenue, and two in the 4500 block of North Merrimac Avenue, police said.
A WOMAN reported that the catalytic converter was stolen from her neighbor’s vehicle at about 5:20 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, in the 5100 block of West Carmen Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 59-year-old woman reported that she heard a loud noise outside and looked out the window to see two men wearing dark colored hooded sweatshirts waiting in a dark colored four-door sedan parked next to her neighbor’s 2009 Honda CRV sport utility vehicle before a third man emerged from under the Honda and they drove away, and the Honda owner, a 38-year-old woman, later discovered that the catalytic converter was missing, according to police.
In related news, a 63-year-old woman reported that the catalytic converter to her 2009 Honda CRV was stolen between 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, and 7 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, while parked in the 5200 block of West Winona Street, police said.
SEVERAL vehicles were reported stolen between 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, and 7 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Vehicles were reported stolen in the 3700 block of North Cicero Avenue, a residential garage in the 4700 block of North London Avenue, the 4900 block of West Winona Street, the 5100 block of North Nordica Avenue, the 5400 block of West Hutchinson Street and the 5900 block of North Austin Avenue, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his bicycle was stolen at about 11:50 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, while riding a CTA bus in the 4900 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 71-year-old man reported that his bicycle was mounted on the front rack of the bus, and that when he was exiting the bus driver notified him that another person already took his bicycle valued at $450 from the rack and fled south on Milwaukee, according to police.
In related news, at least four bicycles were also reported stolen from the CTA Harlem Blue Line station, 5550 N. Harlem Ave., between July 26, and July 29, police said.
A WOMAN reported that her belongings were stolen between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, from the XSport Fitness gym, 3212 N. Central Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to the locker room she discovered that her locker was broken into, and that her purse valued at $560 containing her wallet, driver’s license, state ID, bank card, two store debit cards and $250 in cash was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her wallet was stolen at about 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, as she was shopping at the Mariano’s grocery store, 5353 N. Elston Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to her shopping cart she discovered that her wallet containing her social security, U.S. residency and credit and debit cards was missing, and store surveillance footage showed an older woman took the wallet as it sat unattended in the cart, according to police.
