Local Crime from 17th District 9-1-18
A TEENAGER was arrested on gun charges after allegedly running from officers following a traffic stop at about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, in the 5100 block of North Kolmar Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Officers saw a red Honda sedan driving at high speed and they stopped the vehicle on Kolmar and two males exited from rear passenger seats holding handguns and ran away in separate directions, and the Honda with two occupants sped away, according to police.
Officers pursued the two armed males on foot and one of the males dropped a 9mm handgun on Foster Avenue, shortly before he was caught and arrested in the 5100 block of North Tripp Avenue, where he was found in possession of a 30 round extended magazine with an unknown number of live rounds as well as a live rounds in his pocket, police said.
The suspect was identified as a 16-year-old male. The other man was described as black, age 18 to 21, 5-8 to 6-0, 140 to 165 pounds, with brown eyes, black afro-style hair, and a medium brown complexion.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant, 4045 W. Lawrence Ave., reported that the store was robbed at gunpoint at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The employee reported that a man approached the counter and demanded money and displayed a small black handgun from his pocket, and took an unknown amount of cash and ran away west on Lawrence, according to police.
In related news, an employee of the Subway restaurant, 4101 W. Lawrence Ave., reported that the store was robbed at gunpoint at about 9:45 p.m. Aug. 28, police said. The 23-year-old man reported that a man walked up to the counter, lifted up his shirt to show a black semiautomatic handgun in his waistband and demanded money, and took $300 in cash and led to a car waiting on Karlov Street, according to police.
Additionally, an employee of another Subway restaurant, 3346 W. Foster Ave., reported that the store was robbed at gunpoint at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, police said.
The cashier reported that a man entered the restaurant, demanded money and said "don’t make me pull this out, it’s not your money anyways," and took an unknown amount of cash and fled, according to police.
The man was described in the three incidents as black, age 35 to 50, 5-11 to 6-3 and about 175 to 180 pounds, with short black hair, a dark skin complexion, a goatee beard, a natural birth mark on the face, and wearing a black T-shirt, a black do-rag and dark-colored pants in all three incidents.
TWO MEN were arrested in connection to two robbery incidents that began at about 10:40 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, in the 3500 block of West Lawrence Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A 32-year-old man reported that he was walking when two men approached from behind and he felt a man try to remove his wallet from his rear pants pocket, and that when he tried to ward off the pickpocket one of the men punched him in the face and they both fled south on Drake Avenue without proceeds, according to police.
In related news, a man reported that three men robbed him at about 10:45 p.m. the same day in the 4700 block of North Lawndale Avenue, police said.
The 27-year-old man reported that three men approached and asked him a question that he did not fully understand due to the language barrier, that the three men then punched him and one man took his wallet containing a social security card, a driver’s license, additional ID cards and $320 in cash and a necklace, according to police.
Officers saw two men matching a description who ran from police but were eventually detained in the 4700 blocks of North Avers and North Hamlin avenues, and the men were arrested after they were identified, according to police. One of the men was found with some of the proceeds from the second robbery on Lawndale Avenue, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Christopher Coleman, age 43, of the 4400 block of North Hamlin Avenue, and Dayton Donnell Bettis, age 28, of the 3400 block of West Sunnyside Avenue.
SHOTS were fired at about noon Friday, Aug. 24, in an apartment building in the 5600 block of North Kimball Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A woman reported that a man from a second floor hallway fired several gunshots into her apartment, and that the man responsible might live in the first floor of the building, according to police. Officers discovered three rounds that were fired through the drywall into the apartment unit and another round lodged in the ceiling of a bedroom, police said.
SHOTS were fired at about 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, in the 4500 block of North Central Park Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Witnesses reported that a black pickup truck driving south on Central Park made a U-turn at the intersection of Sunnyside Avenue and they heard multiple shots, and officers found two spent .380-caliber bullet casings on the sidewalk and four spent 9mm bullet casings on the street, according to police.
SHOTS were fired at about 10:50 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, in the 4800 block of North Lawndale Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Two women, age 20 and 23, reported that they were driving south on Lawndale when they drove into an alley to let a Jeep sport utility vehicle pass them from behind, but the Jeep stopped, asked "where do you live at?" and fired three shots at their vehicle before driving away, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked at about 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, in the Al-Khyam Bakery store, 4738 N. Kedzie Ave., according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 29-year-old man reported that he was arguing with a man when the man took a cooking skewer and struck him about the face repeatedly before he fled on foot, according to police.
The man was described as white, age 50 to 55, 5-5 to 5-7, 140 to 160 pounds, with a light-brown skin complexion.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, in the 4500 block of North Christiana Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 53-year-old man reported that while walking on the sidewalk a woman asked to use the phone and when he responded no a man exited a parked blue sedan and took the phone valued at $200 drove away in the sedan with the woman, according to police.
The man was described as black, age 55 to 60, about 5-6 and 140 to 150 pounds, with a dark skin complexion, and wearing a black ski mask, a blue jacket and blue jeans. The woman was described as black, age 16 and approximately 5-11 and 145 pounds.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, in the 3600 block of North Elston Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 27-year-old man reported that a man demanded his belongings and when he refused a fight ensued and the 27-year-old ran away and lost his backpack containing $20 worth of food and a cell phone valued at $300, according to police. The man reported that another man was nearby and may have been an accomplice of the man who fought and robbed him, police said.
The man was described as black, age 25 to 27, 6-0 to 6-2 and 170 to 180 pounds, with black dreadlock hair, a medium-brown skin complexion, and wearing shorts and a black T-shirt with "Bad" lettering.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about midnight Friday, Aug. 24, inside the Huddle House restaurant, 4748 N. Kimball Ave., according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that she was eating when a man grabbed her purse and ran off and that she grabbed on the purse in the doorway vestibule she injured her head on a door frame during the struggle, and chased the man into an alley of Lawrence Avenue where the man discarded the purse and took her wallet containing two credit cards, a driver’s license and $15 in cash, according to police.
The man was described as black, age 40 to 50, 5-6 to 5-9, 170 to 175 pounds, with brown eyes, short part-grey hair, a medium skin complexion, and wearing a light blue button-down denim shirt and dark-colored pants.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 4900 block of North Monticello Avenue was burglarized between 5 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the rear kitchen door had been forced open and that a watch and $2,000 worth of miscellaneous jewelry were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his house in the 5000 block of North Kostner Avenue was burglarized between 10:30 a.m. and 4:50 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered two rear doors pried open and a plastic drawer discarded by the backyard garden, and that a laptop computer and an iPod music player were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 3400 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue was burglarized at about 10 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his home for sale he discovered the realtor’s lockbox containing house keys was missing and that a refrigerator valued at $2,750, a stove valued at $1,400 and basement furniture valued at $700 were missing, according to police. A neighbor’s home surveillance camera showed an unknown amount of people loading proceeds into a pickup truck in the rear alley, police said.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 6200 block of North Drake Avenue was burglarized between 7 a.m. and 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the rear door had been forced open and that $4,500 in cash and $10,000 worth of miscellaneous jewelry were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her family’s house in the 4700 block of West Byron Street was burglarized between 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, and 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that an Xbox 360 video game console valued at $400, 20 video games valued at $400, and part of a coin collection were missing, according to police.
LINCOLNWOOD
Dobson
A MAN WAS arrested on battery charges following an incident at about 2 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, in the 4600 block of West Dobson Street, Skokie, according to Lincolnwood police.
Witnesses reported that they saw a man fighting with a woman at the BP Gas station, 7200 N. Cicero Ave., and that the man tried to hit the woman with a grey Nissan sport utility vehicle before the woman re-entered the vehicle where they fought again, and officers saw the Nissan and followed it until it stopped in an alley of Dobson Street in Skokie, according to police.
The man and woman were uncooperative and made numerous sexually obscene comments to police, and the man was arrested after he allegedly lied about his identity and he was further charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer and resisting arrest after he allegedly kicked and head-butted a sergeant as officers tried to drag him into a police vehicle, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Michael Diggs-Pinto, age 19, of the 8200 block of North Niles Center Road, Skokie.
A MAN WAS charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following his arrest at about 1:50 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, in the 7200 block of North Albany Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
Officers in the 7000 block of North McCormick Boulevard saw a blue 2002 Jeep Liberty sport utility vehicle speeding at 55 miles-per-hour in a 40 mile-per-hour zone and the car was eventually stopped on Albany Avenue, according to police. The driver had no driver’s license or insurance and he was arrested after he failed sobriety testing, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Eduardo Flores-Rios, age 48, of the 1600 block of West Chase Avenue.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 6700 block of North Central Park Avenue was burglarized between 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, and 10:20 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, according to Lincolnwood police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered $200 in cash and various jewelry valued at $40,000 to $50,000 missing from a bedroom drawer and closet, according to police.
SEVERAL vehicles were burglarized in the village between 12:50 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, and 3 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, according to Lincolnwood police.
Two vehicular burglaries were reported in the 3500 block of West North Shore Avenue, two in the 6800 block of North Kenton Avenue, and one in the 4300 block of West Morse Avenue.
