Local Crime from 17th District 9-14-19
A TEACHER reported that shots were fired at about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, outside of ASPIRA Haugan Middle School, 3729 W. Leland Ave., according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A teacher at Haugan reported that he was standing outside with a student when they heard a loud commotion and gunshots across the street by Leland and Lawndale avenues, and that the student saw a man fire a black handgun and duck behind a car before the teacher and student fled, according to police. Witnesses reported that a black sport utility vehicle may have also been involved in the shooting incident and no injuries were reported, police said.
The armed male was described as black and wearing a red-and-white "Where’s Waldo"-style striped shirt.
A MAN REPORTED that shots were fired in an apparent gang-related incident at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, in the 4100 block of North Albany Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 38-year-old man reported that he was stopped at the intersection of West Irving Park Road and North Whipple Street when an older-model silver sedan, possibly a Nissan Maxima or Altima, drove up and one of the two male occupants made gang gestures, and that he continued driving north and was approaching the nearby intersection of North Albany and West Berteau avenues when he noticed the same vehicle was following him and a passenger leaned out the window and started shooting at him before speeding away east on a street, according to police. Officers recovered three spent 9mm bullet casings on the street, and no property damage or injuries were reported, police said.
One man was described as white/Hispanic and wearing a blue baseball cap and black wire-framed glasses, and the other as white/Hispanic, with short black hair, and wearing a black T-shirt.
TWO MEN reported that their car was shot in a possible gang-related incident at about 7 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, by the intersection of North Troy and West Grace streets, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The two 20-year-old men reported that they were driving their 2002 Honda Accord on the Kennedy Expressway when a newer-model black sport utility vehicle with tinted windows and blue headlights followed them, and that when they pulled off the highway and approached the intersection of Grace and Troy streets they heard three to four gunshots, one of which struck the rear bumper of their car, according to police.
A MAN WAS detained after he allegedly killed his dog with his handgun at about midnight Sunday, Sept. 8, by his home in the 4700 block of West Byron Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of shots fired and met a man who reported that he had been drinking and was afraid that his recently-obtained pit bull was being aggressive toward his young daughter, and that he shot his dog with his legally-registered 9mm handgun, according to police.
The man was transported to Swedish Covenant Hospital for a psychological evaluation, police said.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 5100 block of North Avers Avenue was burglarized between 7:50 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, and 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the rear door had been opened, and that a black television valued at $1,000 was missing, according to police.
