Murder-suicide reported in Jeff Park

A man shot and killed his ex-wife and committed suicide in a domestic related incident at about 1:10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, outside in the 4700 block of North Linder Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of a person shot and saw a woman on the ground by her vehicle near the curb, according to police. The woman was pronounced deceased on the scene from a gunshot wound to the head, police said.
A neighbor reported that she heard shots and saw a man kicking the woman while her two 8-year-old children were by her side and then saw the man shoot himself in the chest and fall to the ground, according to police. The man was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at about 1:50 p.m., police said.
A ride-share driver reportedly picked up the children and drove them to a neighbor’s home, police said. GoFundMe pages have been started to help raise funds for the two children. The woman was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as Huda Al-Jaburi, age 30, of the Linder address. Her death was ruled a homicide, the examiner said.
The man was identified by the medical examiner’s office as Khalid Al-Jaber, age 42, of the 6400 block of North Sacramento Avenue. His death was ruled a suicide, the examiner said.
To honor the life of Al-Jaburi and send a message that there is no room for domestic violence in the community, residents and the Domestic Violence Legal Clinic, Apna Ghar, Between Friends and KAN-WIN groups co-hosted a candle vigil on Nov. 8 at Linder and Lawrence avenues.
