The Chicago Park District plans to use a portion of a recent $325,000 grant from Coca-Cola to pay for improvements at Sauganash and Hiawatha parks on the Northwest Side.
About $60,000 will be used to install outdoor fitness course equipment at Sauganash Park, 5861 N. Kostner Ave., and Calumet Park, 9801 S. Avenue G, said park district spokeswoman Jessica Maxey-Faulkner. The equipment could include items such as pull-up bars, parallel bars and a small climbing wall.
In addition, $70,000 will be allocated for improvements to the fitness centers at Hiawatha Park, 8029 W. Forest Preserve Drive, Taylor Park, 39 W. 47th St., and Rainbow Beach Park, 3111 E. 77th St.
Additional funds from the grant have been earmarked for tennis court renovations at several parks and for existing park district programs, including summer fitness festivals and the summer basketball league.
“From improvements to the Lakefront trail, fitness centers and tennis courts, to the support of important community programs, Coca-Cola has made a significant commitment to strengthening our communities,” parks superintendent Michael Kelly said.
The Great Lakes Coca-Cola Distribution LLC is partnering with the Coca-Cola Company on the grant.
