“Scabby the Rat” greeted motorists last week at 5160 NW Highway Site
AT LEAST NINE "Scabby the Rat" inflatables greeted motorists last week in protest of the reported use of non-union workers at a self-storage construction site at 5160 N. Northwest Hwy. Alderman John Arena (45th) and aldermanic challenger Jim Gardiner were at the protest.
The southern half of the parcel is earmarked for a mixed-use housing complex, and Arena said that the housing developer has committed to using union workers. "Scabby" also appeared in June at the construction site of a Starbucks Coffee restaurant, 5601 W. Lawrence Ave.
