A 29-year-old suspect was ordered to remain in custody after being charged with first-degree attempted murder and two other felony charges in connection with the reported Oct. 11 shooting at a store in the 3900 block of North Narragansett Avenue, according to Chicago police.

The suspect was arrested Tuesday morning, Oct. 29, in the 5200 block of North Lieb Avenue, near Catalpa Early Childhood Center in Jefferson Park, after officers reportedly went to arrest him on a warrant at or near his home in the 5200 block of North Ludlam Avenue. According to a resident, the suspect was taken into custody on school grounds while some children were having soccer practice and others were being dropped off for school.

The suspect was charged in connection with allegedly shooting and injuring a 33-year-old man at about 10:40 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Berbati Food and Liquors, 3956 N. Narragansett Ave., according to police.

Video footage provided by the store reportedly showed a man enter the business as a customer was walking out and they made eye contact, and the man allegedly shot the costumer, according to police. The footage also showed the wounded customer exiting the store and reportedly pointing a handgun and firing at the other man but striking a parked vehicle, according to police. At the time no one showed up for treatment at an area hospital in connection with the incident, police said.

The suspect arrested on Oct. 29 has been arrested several times since 2015, according to the Chicago police website.

In addition to attempted murder, the suspect was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon or someone on parole, and armed habitual criminal in connection with the Oct. 11 incident, police said.

At a detention hearing on Oct. 30, a judge ordered the suspect to remain in custody and set the next hearing for Wednesday, Nov. 6, according to Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court.

The suspect was identified by police as Daniel Perez, of the 5200 block of Ludlam, according to police.

The arrest stemmed from an investigation by Area 5 detectives, 16th (Jefferson Park) Police District and other agencies and law enforcement task forces, according to police.
