Teen charged as adult in shooting at 7-Eleven

A teenager was charged as an adult in connection with the shooting of an employee of the 7-Eleven store, 7555 W. Irving Park Road, during a reported robbery that happened at about 7:25 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.
According to a court proffer, the 16-year-old teen approached the cash register and pointed a handgun at the 28-year-old cashier, jumped over the partition and continued to point the gun.
The employee fearing for the safety of his supervisor grabbed at the gun and attempted to take the weapon from the teenager when the juvenile fired the gun, striking him in the leg and the two then fell into the store office, according to the state’s attorney.
The gun was discharged a second time during a scuffle and the cashier was shot in the abdomen and the teen fled the store with $38 in cash, the attorney said. The cashier was treated in stable condition at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, according to police.
During an investigation, officers were able to identify the suspect from previous encounters with him and from a surveillance video from the store, the attorney said.
The court proffer also states that a Silver Chevrolet Impala with distinctive passenger side damage was taken from a gas station at 83rd and Stony Island in Chicago on Dec. 28 and that the alleged hijacker matched a description from the 7-Eleven incident and that the vehicle was photographed hours before the convenience store robbery and at the time of the shooting.
Following the 7-Eleven store robbery, court documents charge that the teen participated in a robbery at a Dunkin’ Donuts in Hammond, Ind., and was recorded wearing the same clothing, using a semi-automatic pistol and emerging from the same stolen Impala.
On Jan. 2, still images from a 7-Eleven in Naperville clearly showed the suspect’s face as he reportedly committed a robbery, again using his left hand to point a semi-automatic pistol at a store employees and at the time of his arrest on Jan. 15, the suspect possessed a dark .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol similar to that which was captured on video being used in the convenience store shooting, according to the state’s attorney.
The suspect was identified by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office as Larrion Brown, age 16. Brown is charged with armed robbery, aggravated battery, vehicular hijacking, unlawful possession of a weapon and defacing a firearm.
