Traffic signal at Devon, Le Mai to be installed
by BRIAN NADIG
Installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of Devon and Le Mai avenues in Edgebrook is scheduled to begin in the late summer, according to Alderman Margaret Laurino (39th).
In 2012 a local Boy Scout leader was killed in an accident while riding his bicycle near the intersection, and earlier this year a motorcyclist was killed in an accident there.
"Alderman Napolitano and I commissioned a traffic study and design for a traffic signal at the intersection of Devon and Le Mai several years ago. We have been in touch with the Chicago Department of Transportation, Mayor Emanuel’s office and state Representative D’Amico’s office about installing a traffic signal at this dangerous intersection.
"Today, I am happy to announce Commissioner Rebekah Scheinfeld of CDOT said construction of the signal will start late summer," Laurino said last month on her Facebook page.
Construction should be completed by mid-November, said Laurino spokesman Manuel Galvan.
Laurino also reported that she asked 16th (Jefferson Park) Police District commander William Looney to step up traffic enforcement on Devon "due to the high speeds and dangerous driving" and that the district plans to conduct a traffic mission in the area.
"We ask residents to call 911 if they see any drag racing or erratic driving on Devon," she said.
