Workers held hostage

A man was arrested after he took two people hostage at about 9:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the 7-Eleven store, 4859 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Officers who responded to a report of a person being held at the convenience store saw the man in the rear room holding a 69-year-old man and a 21-year-old man hostage, according to police. Officers requested the Special Weapons and Tactics team, and the team used "flash bangs" and was able to arrest the man without incident several hours later, police said.
16th District police commander William Looney said that once the SWAT team took over the situation, district police worked to keep the perimeter. Looney said that it was reported that the man may have been armed with a box cutter or a broken bottle and that he allegedly cut one of the clerks.
"We’ve seen the man when he was being taken out of the store and the paramedics treated the victims, but the extent of their injuries is unknown," Looney said.
The suspect, who was identified by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office as Antonio Camacho, age 39, of the 100 block of Meadow Court, Carpentersville, was charged with two felony counts of unlawful restraint and one count of felony armed robbery with a weapon. Camacho was taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation.
