Arrest in thefts of cars
A teenager was arrested after he allegedly stole a woman’s car at gunpoint at about 11:20 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, in the 4300 block of North Albany Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A 30-year-old woman reported that as she was parking her 2004 Infinity, two people got out of a sport utility vehicle and one of them displayed a handgun and ordered her out of the car, according to police. The woman said that one of the two drove away in her car containing her cell phone and the other vehicle followed, police said.
About 10 minutes later a man and woman reported that two men attempted to rob them at gunpoint in the 4200 block of North Francisco Avenue, according to police. The 27-year-old man and the 26-year-old woman reported that two people approached them and one of them displayed a handgun and the other threatened them with a hammer and the two demanded their belongings, police said. The woman reported that she screamed and the assailants fled to a sport utility vehicle and an Infinity, police said.
An off-duty police officer reported that as he was parking his car at about midnight Sunday, Jan. 8, in the 3300 block of West Thorndale Avenue, a person in a 2008 Lexus stopped and threatened him with a gun and then fled, according to police. The officer followed the vehicle to Christiana and Bryn Mawr avenues and called police, and responding officers chased the car to the 4800 block of North Bernard Street, where the car rammed a squad car and the driver was placed into custody for possession of a stolen vehicle and other charges, police said.
Several cell phones and key fobs were found in the driver’s possession, including the cell phone and keys that belonged to the woman whose Infinity was stolen, according to police. The suspect also was identified in a photo lineup, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as a 14-year-old male.
