BOB-O’s now open at 6161 N. Milwaukee Ave. on Chicago’s NW Side

by BRIAN NADIG
BOB-O’s, known for its hotdogs, Italian beef and fresh cut fries, has opened a second location on Chicago’s Northwest Side.
Its flagship original location remains at 8258 W. Irving Park Road, but earlier this month BOB-O’s opened at 6161 N. Milwaukee Ave. in the Gladstone Park commercial corridor. The site was once home to the Original Roma Beef, which closed more than 7 years ago.
“It started with a push cart. Our history goes back to the 1950s,” said BOB-O’s owner Richard Bartell. “We’ve lasted this long due to good family practices (and) our friends.”
The Bartell family acquired the business about 50 years ago.
BOB-O’s recently won WGN Radio720’s “Best Beef Tournament. “We were number one out of 64,” Bartell said. He added that “Hungry Hound” food critic Steve Dolinsky has featured the restaurant on television.
Also, the Vienna Hot Dog Company elected BOB-O’s to its hall of fame in 2006 and in 1978 the restaurant received Chicago Magazine’s “Best Beef” award.
Bartell thanks the restaurant’s loyal customer base for contributing to the business’ success. He also is a co-owner, with Tony, of Rand Red Hots, 1441 Rand Road, Des Plaines.
The new BOB-O’s is located at the southeast corner of Milwaukee Avenue and Huntington Street, about a block north of Elston Avenue.
