Breakfast, lunch cafe opening at Milwaukee & Austin in Gladstone Park on Chicago’s NW Side

by BRIAN NADIG
5800 North Cafe, described as a “modern but cozy” pancake house by its owners, is expected to open around mid-January at 5800 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Gladstone Park.
“Everything will be homemade — from the hash browns to the corned beef hash,” said Albion Gjinika, who owns the restaurant with his wife Eva.
They previously operated a breakfast and lunch restaurant in Mount Prospect and will continue to own and operate Phil’s Pizza D’Oro at 5804 N. Milwaukee Ave., which is next to the pancake house.
They acquired Phil’s in 2022 and later relocated the pizza operation into a separate section of the building complex, offering carryout and delivery.
“Pizza has never been better,” he said of the business’ success. “We appreciate all the support from the neighborhood.”
The relocation of the pizza operation allowed for the build out of the new sit-down restaurant, which will be open for breakfast and lunch and offer a bar for those wanting a drink with their brunch in addition to a selection of coffees and teas, Gjinika said.
Tentative hours will be 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and until 4 p.m. on the weekends. The menu will include a variety of egg dishes, including omelettes, pancakes and lunch specialties.
Both the interior and exterior of the building have undergone extensive renovations. The building fronts a portion of Austin Avenue and Ardmore Avenue in addition to Milwaukee.
A party room for up to 100 people also will be available.
Applications are being accepted for a variety of positions at the restaurant. To apply, stop by the restaurant or send a resume to albiongjinika@hotmail.com
