The planned demolition of the former Sears Auto Center, 4035 N. Cicero Ave., is expected to clear the way for a new commercial development next to the new Target store at Six Corners on Chicago’s Northwest Side.

A construction fence recently went up around the former car repair shop, which has been vacant for several years, according to the Six Corners Chamber of Commerce. The site is owned by Novak Constriction, which recently converted the former Sears into loft-style apartments and a ground-floor Target.

Retail and restaurant uses reportedly are being considered for the former repair shop site, but no formal plans have been announced. Alderman James Gardiner (45th) is expected to hold a community meeting on the development during the first few months of 2025, according to the chamber. The site is located near the southeast corner of the Cicero-Belle Plaine intersection.

“The redevelopment of the Sears Auto Center marks another significant step in the ongoing transformation of the neighborhood. Recent additions, including the Target store, Aldi supermarket and modern apartment complexes, have already brought new energy and opportunities to the area.

“Alongside these developments, the community now benefits from world-class health care with the addition of the Northwestern Medicine Old Irving Park Outpatient Center on Irving Park Road, providing state-of-the-art medical services to the community,” the chamber said. “We are very thankful for Alderman Gardiner and his staff for their tireless efforts to bring new retail to the corridor. Their dedication has been instrumental in attracting new businesses and enhancing the neighborhood’s vibrancy, ensuring a brighter future for our community.”
