Gun arrests, a carjacking and robbery reported in Northwest Side police districts; thieves targeting tools from vehicles

A man reported that he was carjacked at about 5:05 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the 5000 block of West Eddy Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 21-year-old man reported that he was standing near his vehicle when a man approached him, pointed a handgun and demanded the keys to his Jeep Cherokee, according to police. The man reported that the man took his keys, entered his vehicle and drove south on Lavergne from Eddy, police said.
The man was described as White/Hispanic and 6-0, with short black hair, and wearing a white shirt, a tan hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
A suspect was later taken into custody by the Illinois State Police. Additional details were not available.
A man was arrested on gun and other charges at about 10:50 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the 3500 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers stopped the man’s vehicle after he allegedly made a turn without signaling and recognized him from several other incidents, according to police.
Officers smelled fresh cannabis allegedly coming from the man’s vehicle and asked him to step out after they saw a spray paint can in a cup holder, police said.
Officers located multiple baggies containing suspected cannabis in the vehicle and recovered a partially disassembled assault rifle with a loaded magazine and an open bottle of liquor from the trunk, according to police. Officers said the rifle was allegedly a “ghost gun” and did not have a serial number, police said.
Officers also discovered another “AK-style” rifle, a handgun, multiple ammunition magazines, replica handguns and cannabis at the man’s home, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as David Zadlo, age 18, of the 5700 block of West Newport Avenue.
A man reported that a man robbed him at about 1 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, in the 5000 block of North Meade Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 33-year-old man reported that he was standing next to his parked vehicle getting something from the glove box when a man approached him from behind and held something to his back that he thought was a handgun, according to police.
The man reported that the man told him not to move, searched through his pockets and took jewelry valued between $15,000 and $20,000, police said. The man reported that the man also took his cell phone but dropped it, then fled north on Meade, according to police.
The man was described as 6-0 to 6-1 and 200 to 210 pounds, and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
A man was arrested on gun charges at about 6:35 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, in the 4700 block of North Major Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A caller reported seeing the man allegedly lift his shirt to show something to a woman and she appeared to be trying to get away from him, according to police.
Officers found a man matching a description near the intersection of Lawrence and Major and he allegedly began chasing a woman into traffic, police said.
Officers exited their vehicle and approached the man and woman and saw the man was wearing a bag and looked around nervously for an escape route and tucked the bag under his armpit, police said.
Officers asked the man if he had any weapons and he turned his body as though he was about to run so an officer grabbed his arm and felt a “hard L-shaped object” in the bag, according to police. Officers tried to detain the man but he began flailing his arms and allegedly struck one of the officers in the face, police said.
Officers recovered a loaded handgun with a laser attachment and a name check revealed he did not have a valid FOID card or concealed carry license so officers placed him into custody, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Marlon Guerrier, age 29, of the 1000 block of South State Street.
A 16-year-old teenager was arrested on drug charges at about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, in an alley of the 4800 block of West Montrose Avenue, after officers discovered he allegedly possessed 51 cannabis oil vape cartridges, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers were aware of recent complaints of suspected drug sales in the west alley of Cicero near Montrose and saw the teenager allegedly try to hide against a wall as they drove past on patrol so they stopped to investigate, according to police.
Officers smelled cannabis and saw he was allegedly holding a plastic bag containing what appeared to be cannabis vape cartridges, police said. Officers discovered the bag contained multiple cannabis vape cartridges so they placed the teen into custody and recovered additional cartridges from the teenager’s backpack during a search, according to police. Officers recovered a total of 51 two-ounce cartridges, police said. The 16-year-old was transported to the 16th District station and his parents were contacted, according to police.
A man was placed into custody at about 5:05 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, in the 5600 block of West Goodman Street, after a license plate reader pinged a stolen vehicle and officers discovered the driver also possessed suspected heroin, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers stopped the vehicle, placed the man into custody and recovered a plastic baggie containing a white powder suspected to be heroin from the driver’s side of the vehicle, according to police.
It is unclear what the man was charged with.
A man reported that several tools were stolen from his vehicle at about 7 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, while it was parked in the 5100 block of North Lacrosse Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he returned to the vehicle, discovered someone had forced it open and tools valued at $2,750 were stolen, according to police.
A man reported that several tools were stolen from his vehicle at about 3:10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, while it was parked in the 3400 block of North Lavergne Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that surveillance footage showed a man and a woman exited a box truck, cut the locks and stole tools valued at $3,600, according to police.
A man reported that several tools were stolen from his vehicle at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, while it was parked in the 5300 block of North McVicker Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he returned to the vehicle, discovered the front driver side window was broken and tools valued at $650 were missing, according to police.
The man reported that surveillance footage showed someone broke the window at about 2:30 a.m. and placed the tools into a white 4-door vehicle, then fled east on Berwyn, police said.
A man reported that his home in the 5600 block of North Parkside Avenue was burglarized between about 8:45 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he returned home and discovered the rear basement door had been forced open, according to police. The man reported that several personal care items and a laptop computer valued at $1,900 were missing, police said. The man reported that he had a tracking device in a bag that was stolen and it last pinged to the 2700 block of North Central Park Avenue, according to police.
A garage door at the 16th (Jefferson Park) Police District station, 5151 N. Milwaukee Ave., was defaced with anti-police graffiti between about 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, according to police.
Six motor vehicle thefts were reported in the area between about 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, and about 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 5600 block of North Central Avenue, the 4300 block of North Moody Avenue, the 6000 block of West Gunnison Street, the 5000 block of North Neva Avenue, the 5400 block of West Foster Avenue and in the 5300 block of West Winnemac Avenue, according to police.
Three motor vehicle theft attempts were reported in the area between about 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, and about 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
In each of the theft attempts, the victims returned to their vehicles, discovered their windows were damaged and their steering columns were stripped, according to police. Theft attempts were reported in the 5000 block of North Neenah Avenue, the 6900 block of West Berwyn Avenue and in the 5200 block of North Newcastle Avenue, police said.
A man reported that four men stole several tools from his vehicle at about 6:25 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, while it was parked in the 4200 block of North Central Park Avenue, and one of the men threatened him with a handgun, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that he looked out the window while he was getting ready for work and saw a black Ford Fusion stopped next to this vehicle, according to police. The man reported that he yelled from his window and went outside to confront them, when one of the men pointed a handgun at him so he went back inside and called 911, police said.
The man reported that he watched as the men passed multiple tools to each other and placed them in the trunk of the Ford, then fled south on Central Park, according to police.
The man reported that the men stole tools valued at $1,900, police said.
The man reported that all four men were wearing dark-colored clothing with face coverings and gloves, according to police.
A man was arrested at on retail theft charges at about about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Jewel-Osco, 4660 W. Irving Park Road, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The employee reported that the man placed several alcohol and food items valued at $147.83 into a bag, then tried to leave without paying, according to police. The employee reported that he stopped the man when he tried to leave and called 9-1-1, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Jesus Sanchez Gutierrez, age 40, of the 5400 block of West Addison Street.
Seven catalytic converter thefts were reported in the area between about midnight Monday, Oct. 6, and about 6:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 4900 block of North Harding Avenue, the 3200 block of North Hamlin Avenue, the 5100 block of North Hamlin Avenue, the 4300 block of North Keeler Avenue, the 3800 block of North Sacramento Avenue, the 5500 block of North Saint Louis Avenue and in the 4800 block of North Christiana Avenue, according to police.
A man reported that several tools were stolen from a work site in the 4800 block of North Kentucky Avenue between about 11 a.m. and noon Monday, Oct. 13,according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that he and his coworkers left the work site briefly and when they returned, tools valued at $3,700 were missing, according to police.
The man reported that he had locked the tools up before they left the site and there were no signs of forced entry, police said.
