Gunfire reported in Sauganash, as shots hit moving vehicle, parked pickup truck

An area resident had his parked pickup truck damaged by gunfire that broke out at about 6:35 p.m. Sunday, March 15, as four gunmen were firing at another vehicle in the 4400 block of West Bryn Mawr Avenue in Sauganash, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Surveillance footage of the incident shows four men walking south on Kostner Avenue, trying to sneak up on a black Alfa Romeo Giulia that was stopped on Bryn Mawr but appeared to have its engine running. Some or all of the men were masked.
As they get closer to the Alfa Romeo, the men start shooting at it as it speeds away, heading west. The men then turn and start to run in the opposite direction, but it’s not clear on the video if any gunfire was returned toward them.
Officers were later flagged down by two 17-year-old males in the 3600 block of North Cicero Avenue and they reported that shots were fired at them on Bryn Mawr, police said. One of the teens reported that the vehicle had run out of gas while they were driving on Cicero, police said.
The teens were not injured but officers noted that there were bullet holes in the rear of the vehicle, police said.
Officers recovered nine spent 45-caliber shell casings from around the Bryn Mawr-Kostner intersection, police said.
The Toyota was struck by four bullets, according to police.
The gunmen were only described as male and age 18 to 30, police said.
Alderman Samantha Nugent (39th) issued the following statement: “Following notice of the incident, our office requested special police attention for the neighborhood. This often comes in the form of additional unmarked police cars patrolling the area.”
The incident remains under investigation, and the next community policing Beat 1711 meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at the Salvation Army Mayfair Community Church, 5020 N. Pulaski Road, according to Nugent’s office. The incident occurred in Beat 1711.
There also were reports of gunshot sounds in the area on Wednesday night or early Thursday, March 11-12, near the Kildare-Bryn Mawr intersection. Police did receive calls for service for the area that night, but there were no confirmed reports of gunfire, according to police.
Also in the 17th District, a 17-year-old male was fatally shot while driving at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, March 14, in the 6100 block of North Kimball Avenue, according to Chicago police.
He reportedly was shot in the face and torso from someone driving a red vehicle, police said. He was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as Sergio A. Agon Mejia, age 17, of unknown address.
