Local Crime from 16th District 2-17-18
A MAN WAS placed into custody after he allegedly attempted to rob a man at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven store, 6540 W. Belmont Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 22-year-old man reported that while he was standing near his car, a man approached him with his hand in his pocket and demanded his vehicle keys, and that he heard a clicking sound coming from the man’s pocket that he believed to be the sound of a switchblade knife, according to police. The man reported that as he backed away from the man, he continued to approach him, demand his keys and threatened to stab him if he did not comply, and that when the man saw that he was using his cell phone, he fled, police said.
Officers saw a man matching a description walking west on Belmont and that when they attempted to stop him, he ran away and was placed into custody after they apprehended him in the 3200 block of North New England Avenue, according to police.
The suspect is not being identified because it is unknown if he was charged with a crime as of press time.
A MAN REPORTED that a man attacked him with a metal pipe at about 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, in the 4900 block of West Hutchinson Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 26-year-old man reported that while he was refueling his vehicle at the Citgo gas station, 4219 N. Milwaukee Ave., he saw a driver at the station revving the engine of a blue Jeep Grand Cherokee toward him, and that he ignored the man, entered his vehicle and drove home, according to police. The man reported that when he parked in the street was walking to his residence, the man from the gas station walked toward him and said, "What you be about," and then swung a metal pipe at him several times before he entered his vehicle and drove away southbound, police said.
The man was described as Hispanic, age 24 to 28, about 5-8 and 130 pounds, and wearing a gray sweater, dark blue jeans and a light blue baseball hat.
A PIZZA delivery driver reported that he was robbed at about 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, in the 3400 block of North Laramie Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 20-year-old driver reported that when he entered his vehicle after delivering a pizza to a customer, a man approached him, pointed a silver handgun at him and said, "Give me all your cash," and then took $60 in cash from him and ran away through an alley, according to police.
The man was described as Hispanic, age 25 to 30, about 6-0 and 180 pounds, and wearing a black hooded jacket, black Michael Jordan sweatpants and blue gym shoes.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was stolen at about 4:10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, from the parking lot of the Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant, 5205 N. Nagle Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he exited his black 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer automobile with its keys in the ignition and then entered the restaurant, and that when he returned, he saw a man driving away with his vehicle southbound through an alley, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that two men shoplifted items from the T-Mobile store, 4809 W. Irving Park Road, at about 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that two men entered the store and took an iPhone X cell phone valued at $1,000 and an iPhone 8 Plus Gold cell phone valued at $800 from a display and then left the store without paying for the items, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that a man broke into her home in the 3400 block of North Oak Park Avenue between 2 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 74-year-old woman reported that she heard a knock on the front door and that when she went to see who it was, she heard a man inside a back room of the residence and that when she screamed, the man exited through a rear window while the man in the front of the house entered a dark-colored sport utility vehicle and drove away, according to police.
The men were described as black, age 20 to 25, between 5-9 and 6-0 and between 160 and 200 pounds.
A COUPLE reported that their residence in the 5000 block of North Major Avenue was burglarized between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man and woman reported that when they returned home they discovered the the rear door had been forced open and that a window on the door had been broken, and that a Macintosh laptop and case, a guitar valued at $350, a guitar valued at $300, a Bluetooth wireless speaker and jewelry were missing, according to police.
Irving Park
A MAN REPORTED that his apartment in the 5500 block of West Hutchinson Street was burglarized between 2:50 p.m. and 4:20 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear window had been broken and the rear door had been opened, and that $5,500 in cash was missing, according to police.
A COUPLE reported that their residence in the 5000 block of North Major Avenue was burglarized between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his residence in the 5700 block of West Melrose Street was burglarized between 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, and 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his garage he discovered that the side door had been broken and that four Goodyear 20-inch tires valued at $800, a Dewalt power drill valued at $200 and a Dewalt reciprocating saw valued at $200 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between 10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, and 6:35 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, while it was parked in the 4800 block of West Lawrence Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his vehicle he discovered the front passenger window had been shattered and that various tools valued at $600 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her vehicle was burglarized between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, while it was parked in the 5700 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to her vehicle she discovered that the rear passenger window had been shattered and that gold chains and pendants valued at $25,000, $2,000 in cash and a purse valued at $5 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between 8:20 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, and 2 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, in the 4000 block of North Moody Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his vehicle he discovered that the rear passenger window had been broken and that a credit card, a debit card and $100 in cash were missing, according to police.
