Local Crime from 16th District 2-21-18





A WOMAN reported that she was robbed and sexually assaulted at about 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, in the 5800 block of North Austin Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 28-year-old woman reported that she drove out of the parking lot of the 7-Eleven store, 5789 N. Milwaukee Ave., and was followed by a man in a dark vehicle who signaled with his headlights for her to pull over and drove up next to her and told her that something was wrong with her car, according to police. The woman reported that when she pulled over and exited the car the man approached, shoved her and punched her in the face and demanded her purse, police said. The woman reported that when she gave the man the purse containing $12 in cash the man placed a knife to her throat and cut her and fondled her breasts, according to police. The woman reported that she kicked the man lower leg and fled in her car, police said.
The man was described as white, age 55 to 58, 5-9 and 160 pounds, and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, and had poor teeth hygiene.

AN EMPLOYEE reported that Bar 57 West, 5722 W. Higgins Ave., was robbed at gunpoint at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that two men entered the business and walked around the bar counter with one man holding two bags and pointing a gun at her and that the armed man took $100 in cash from the register and $640 in cash from the bar counter, according to police. The employee reported that the man then ordered her into the bathroom, and that one of the men also took her iPhone that was sitting on the bar before they fled, according to police.
Both men were described as white, age 20 to 30 and wearing black ski masks. The armed man was further described as about 5-10 to 6-0, 180 to 200 pounds, and wearing blue jeans and a checkered blue hooded flannel sweatshirt with white lining. The other man was further described as about 5-6 to 5-9, 160 to 180 pounds, and wearing a brown jacket and a grey hooded sweatshirt.

AN EMPLOYEE reported that a man attempted to rob the Metro PCS store, 5150 W. Belmont Ave., at about 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that as she saw a man approach the store and put on a mask she activated the burglary alarm and hid the cash register key and that the man then entered, announced that he had a gun and ordered her to not activate any alarms, according to police. The employee reported that the man unsuccessfully attempted to open the register and commanded her to open the register and that when she replied no, the man struck her in the chest with the back of his hand and that he tried to remove what appeared to be a round silver pipe but it got caught on his sleeve and that the man then fled, according to police.
The man was described as white, age 20 to 26, about 5-6 to 5-9 and 115 to 150 pounds, with blue eyes, and wearing a black skull cap, the bottom half of a black ski mask, white gloves, dark blue jeans, and a black shirt with neck fleece.

A TEENAGER reported that he was robbed at about 3:50 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, in the 5100 block of West Roscoe Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 16-year-old male reported that he was walking home from the bus stop when he noticed that two males were following him, that they asked his gang affiliation to which he responded "you got the wrong guy," and that they struck him repeatedly as he fell to the ground and took his iPhone before they fled south through an alley of North Laramie Avenue, according to police.
Both males were described as having medium brown skin complexions, age 17 to 18, about 5-10 to 5-11 and 160 to 165 pounds, with brown eyes and short black hair.

A MAN WAS arrested following a fight at the Taco Burrito King restaurant, 5509 N. Harlem Ave., at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An officer was getting a meal at the restaurant when he saw a man outside the front door arguing, grabbing and shoving a 59-year-old male security guard, who reported that the man was intoxicated, cutting in line and he allegedly threatened three different people in the restaurant, according to police. The officer attempted to escort the man away from the establishment but the man repeatedly spat at the officer and lunged at the officer and security guard, and the officer then performed a takedown on the man who was arrested and transported to Resurrection Medical Center, according to police.
It was unclear if the man was charged with a crime as of press time.

A MAN WAS charged with retail theft following his arrest at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, a the T.J. Maxx store, 6456 W. Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported that a man took items from store shelves without paying and returned them to the customer service desk for about $248 worth of store credit, and that surveillance video footage showed the man pulling the same act on two previous occasions, one of which occurred on Feb. 13, according to police. The employee recognized the man and called police as the incident was happening, and the man was arrested on site, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Leonard Studmire, age 52, of the 2700 block of North Oak Park Avenue.

SEVERAL vehicle thefts were reported in the between, Feb. 12 and 19, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 5700 block of West Montrose Avenue, the 6200 block of West Addison Street, the 3200 block of North Harlem Avenue, the 3700 block of North Lavergne Avenue, the 5400 block of North Newland Avenue, the 3400 block of North Osage Avnue, the 6500 block of North Normandy Avenue, the 6200 block of West Berteau Avenue and the 4800 block of North Major Avenue, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that a woman broke into his home in the 5100 block of West Byron Street at about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that a woman with several bags was standing inside and that he shoved the woman causing her to drop one of the bags that contained his belongings and that the woman escaped through a basement window, according to police. The man reported that three watches valued at about $2,500 and an unknown amount of additional items were missing, police said.
The woman was described as black, age 25 to 35, approximately 6-0 and 140 pounds, and with black dreadlock hair.

A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, and 7:10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, while it was parked in the 7600 block of West Higgins Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 26-year-old man reported that he discovered a passenger side window shattered, and that a cell phone valued at $300, a Sony car radio valued at $300, and three gauge tools valued at about $200 total were missing, according to police.

A MAN AND WOMAN reported that their home in the 5500 block of West Addison Street was burglarized between 6 and 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man and the woman reported that when they returned home they discovered that a side window had been pried open and that an Xbox video game console, a wedding ring and an engagement ring, four necklaces, two bracelets, a gold watch and a pair of earrings were missing, according to police.

A COUPLE REPORTED that their apartment in the 4100 block of North Monitor Avenue was burglarized between 2 a.m. and 8:50 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The couple reported that when they returned home they discovered that the rear door had been opened and that a tactical knife with attached brass knuckles, a 24-inch flat screen television set, an Xbox 360 video game console, a Wii video game console, an Android cell phone, a collection of baseball caps and a women’s makeup and lotion kit were missing, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 3800 block of North Harlem Avenue was burglarized between 9:20 a.m. and 4:50 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that two rings, a passport, two leather coats and $3,000 in cash were missing, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that her home in the 5400 block of West Berenice Avenue was burglarized between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 60-year-old woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the rear door open had been opened and that 100 to 150 feet of copper piping valued at $3,000 to $5,000 was missing from the basement, according to police.
