Local Crime from 16th District 1-2-19
TWO MEN were arrested and one was detained following an incident at about 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, in the 4900 block of West Patterson Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A witness reported that three men appeared to be breaking into a white sport utility vehicle and officers saw the car matching a description and detained two men by the car, and later arrested one of them after they discovered that a .44-magnum revolver fell to the ground by one of the men, which was reported stolen, according to police.
A third man ran from the white car into a nearby house and when officers approached the man at the home the man allegedly punched multiple officers before he was subdued and arrested, police said.
The suspect who allegedly attacked the officers was identified by police as Jesus Zepeda, age 29, of the 4900 block of West Patterson Avenue. The other suspect was arrested on gun charges and identified by police as Annibal Nunez, age 25, of the 2500 block of North Lincoln Street, Franklin Park. It is not known if the other man was charged with a crime at the time of the report.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, in an alley in the 5100 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 18-year-old man reported that he was walking east through an alley when he heard a white sedan honk its horn twice and that a man ran up to him from behind, pointed a handgun and demanded his belongings and took his cellphone valued at $500, his house and car keys, and a wallet containing a transit card and $100 in cash before the man ran away west through the alley, according to police.
The armed man was described as black, age 40 to 45, 5-5 to 5-7 and 200 to 250 pounds, and wearing a puffy black coat, brown pants and a black ski mask.
A WOMAN reported that she was shot with a BB gun at about 3:45 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, in the 5600 block of North Northwest Highway, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 24-year-old woman and her boyfriend reported that they were walking east when they heard a popping noise coming from an unknown vehicle, and that a short time later the woman realized she was bleeding from her stomach and her boyfriend’s mom then drove her to Resurrection Medical Center, where doctors discovered that she was shot with a BB gun, according to police.
A MAN WAS stabbed at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25, in the 6000 block of West School Street, in an apparent domestic-related incident, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers found a 24-year-old man near the intersection of School Street and Austin Avenue with three stab wounds to the neck who was only able to say that his brother had allegedly stabbed him earlier, and he was transported in critical condition to Illinois Masonic Medical Center for surgery, according to police.
A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly attacked people and damaged a vehicle at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, in the 3600 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man and a woman reported that they saw a man in a "rage" who went into a CVS Pharmacy at 3615 N. Central Ave. and returned outside with a table leg and broke the rear window of a Nissan Altima, and that the woman and other witnesses tried to hold the man down when he began to fight and punch people at random, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Mark Lejtholc, age 37, of the 5600 block of West Berenice Avenue.

TWO TEENAGERS reported that they were sprayed with chemical pepper spray and that one of them was robbed at about 9:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, in the 4400 block of North Lamon Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A female teenager reported that she was arguing with an male teenager that she has a restraining order against when an unknown man approached, said "don’t disrespect your girlfriend" and sprayed them both with chemical spray and stole the male’s cellphone, according to police.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, about age 20, and wearing a black ski cap, a white jacket and grey jogging pants.
A TEENAGER reported that he was robbed at about 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, in the 5300 block of West School Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 15-year-old male reported that three teenagers punched him and took his iPhone valued at $1,100, and that the group ran away, according to police.
A HOUSE FIRE was reported at about 11:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, in the 6100 block of North Olcott Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A woman reported that she smelled smoke and went outside to see her neighbor’s house on fire, and firefighters extinguished the fire and no injuries were reported, according to police. The resident reported that he left a bedroom space heater plugged that may have started the blaze, but fire personnel were unable to determine the exact cause of the fire, police said.
TWO WITNESSES reported an explosion at a donation box in the 3900 block of North Cicero Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Two men reported that they saw a man and a woman walking away with a bag from the donation box, and that a short time later they heard a loud explosion and saw smoke coming out of the box, and that the man and woman drove away north on Cicero in a white sport utility vehicle, according to police.
A K9 bomb-sniffing unit arrived on scene and was unable to detect the use of accelerant in causing the blaze, police said.
The man and woman were both described as Hispanic and age 20 to 30, and the man was further described as wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
A TEENAGER reported that a man followed her at about 4:45 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, in the 4900 block of West Carmen Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The teen and her mother reported that the teenager noticed that a man was following her as she was walking home, and that they saw the man then pace back-and-forth in front of their home and peer into their front window repeatedly, according to police. The teenager reported that she has seen the man lingering in the area before, police said.
The man was described as white with a light complexion, age 40 to 45, about 5-10 and 180 pounds, with bald hair.
A MAN WAS arrested for allegedly trespassing at the Gale Street Inn, 4914 N. Milwaukee Ave., at about noon Thursday, Dec. 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The owner reported that he saw a man inside the restaurant that wouldn’t leave after multiple requests to leave, and officers arrested the man on scene with signed complaints for criminal trespass, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Martel Holliday, age 35, of the 12000 block of South Bishop Street, Calumet Park.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Montrose Deli, 5411 W. Montrose Ave., reported that a man threatened her at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that a Hispanic or Middle Eastern man entered the store and said that he would come back to the store and kill her, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 6900 block of West Higgins Avenue was burglarized between noon and 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that five yellow necklaces, two rings and $11,050 in cash were missing, and a neighbor reported that he heard a person walking inside the woman’s apartment between noon and 2 p.m. that day, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that a man slashed his vehicle’s tire at about 12:40 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, in the 5300 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he was driving a woman to pick up her daughter from a building when a man emerged from the building, walked up to the man’s vehicle, punctured a tire with a knife and ran away south on Central, according to police.
The man was described as white, about age 26, 5-7 to 5-8 and 150 to 160 pounds, with short black hair, a fair skin complexion, and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
A MAN REPORTED that a large amount of unknown ammunition was found at about 3:30 pm. Thursday, Dec. 20, in an apartment building in the 5400 block of North East River Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 50-year-old man reported that a male neighbor found several rounds of live ammunition next to a seventh floor garbage container, including 14 rounds of 16-gauge shells, a 20-gauge shell, 20 rounds of .30-06 caliber bullets and 25 rounds of 9mm bullets, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that she was the victim of a scam at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in her home in the 8500 block of West Carmen Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that a man rang her doorbell and asked about doing tuck pointing masonry work and she let him into her home through the front door, and that a short time later she discovered that her jewelry box was out and three gold rings were missing, according to police.
A CONTRACTOR reported that his belongings were stolen from a vacant house in the 5700 block of North Melvina Avenue between 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12 and 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to the house he discovered that eight flush-mount lights valued at $120, a kitchen faucet valued at $48, three towel racks valued at $225, a ceiling fan valued at $150, three boxes of electrical light switches valued at $45, two boxes of electrical outlets valued at $16, two smoke detectors valued at $95, 15 vent covers valued at $70 and various outlet and light switch coverings valued at $42 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 5800 block of West Patterson Avenue was burglarized between 7:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that an unknown amount of jewelry and wrapped Christmas gifts were missing, according to police.
SEVERAL vehicular burglaries were reported between 7 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, and 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Burglarized vehicles were reported in the 6500 block of West School Street, the 5700 block of West Windsor Avenue, the 5800 block of West Wilson Avenue, the 5200 block of North Liev Avenue, and two in the parking lot of XSport Fitness, 5515 W. Irving Park Road, according to police.
Additionally, several incidents where vehicle windows were broken but nothing was stolen were reported between 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, and noon Sunday, Dec. 23, police said.
Vandalized vehicles were reported in the 6700 block of West Irving Park Road, the 5600 block of North Cumberland Avenue, the 3300 block of North Cicero Avenue and the 4800 block of West Montrose Avenue, according to police.
