Local Crime from 16th District 1-6-2016
A MAN WAS arrested on theft and drug charges and a second man was arrested on drug charges following an incident at about 12:05 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, at Shop and Save Market, 6312 N. Nagle Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 43-year-old woman reported that a man took her purse containing $2,000 in cash and credit cards and attempted to conceal the bag under his jacket, according to police. The woman said that she chased the man out of the store and that a witness saw the chase and tackled the man in the 6300 block of West Devon Avenue, police said.
An off-duty officer saw the men struggling and the suspect was arrested after he was identified by the woman, according to police. The officer activated the man’s car lock button, and a second man got out of the vehicle, police said. Officers discovered a bag containing a substance suspected of being heroin, six pills, syringes and drug paraphernalia in the car, and the second man also was arrested, according to police.
The suspects were identified by police as Andrew L. Zawilenski, age 26, of the 5300 block of North Neenah Avenue, and Tomasz Wojciechowski, age 25, of the 6800 block of North Wayne Avenue.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, in the 5400 block of West Gale Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 21-year-old woman reported that two women called her a name and that one of them grabbed her hair, punched her in the head and ribs and the other took her iPhone, headphones and $50, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at gunpoint at about 12:15 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, in the garage of his home in the 5100 block of West Agatite Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 46-year-old man reported that as he parked his car in the garage a man displayed a handgun and demanded his money and the keys to his 2011 Chevrolet Camaro, according to police. The man said that he gave the man $7 in cash and accelerated in reverse and struck a fence and that the man fled, police said.
A MAN WAS arrested on drug charges at about 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, in the 4700 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers saw a man make a turn in his vehicle without signaling and discovered that the man had a warrant for his arrest, according to police. After the man was placed into custody, officers discovered a bottle containing 60 Valium pills and a bottle containing 31 diazepam pills, one bottle containing a hydrocodone pill and $3,443 in cash, police said. Officers also discovered a box of 9mm ammunition in the trunk of his car, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Samuel Vazquez, age 34, of the 1500 block of North Kedzie Avenue.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 6:40 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, in the 3300 block of North Long Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 46-year-old woman reported that a man took her purse containing her cell phone, keys, credit cards and $30 in cash, according to police.
A MAN WAS arrested on aggravated battery charges following an incident at about 9:40 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, at the CTA Jefferson Park Blue Line station, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 39-year-old man reported that as he was standing by the exit as the train entered the station, a man stared at him and then stabbed him, according to police. The suspect was arrested based on a description at the O’Hare Blue Line stop, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Jevonti Davis, age 36, of the 400 block of North Saint Louis.
EMPLOYEES reported that the Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant, 6200 W. Belmont Ave., was burglarized between 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, and 5:45 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employees reported that they discovered that the drive-through window had been forced open and that $12,684 was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 6100 block of North Leader Avenue was burglarized between 3:15 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the rear window was open and that a laptop computer valued at $1,000, an iPad valued at $600, jewelry valued at $10,000, a purse valued at $1,500, a bag valued at $1,500 and $30 worth of coins were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 3900 block of North Oak Park Avenue was burglarized between 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, and 8:25 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that a snow blower valued at $570, a power washer valued at $200, and a drill and a saw valued at $250 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 6300 block of North LaCrosse Avenue was burglarized at about 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the side door was open and that a watch valued at $500, a ring valued at $1,200 and a ring valued at $225, a bracelet valued at $500, a ring valued at $100 and a laptop computer valued at $1,500 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 7000 block of West Foster Avenue was burglarized between 7:45 a.m. and 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear window was broken and that a television set, jewelry and two rings were missing, according to police.
THE OWNER of the Dollar Smart store, 3314 N. Central Ave., reported that the business had been burglarized at about 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that the rear door hinges had been sawed off and that 12 cartons of cigarettes valued at $1,440, tobacco pipes, a case of cigarette papers, 24 e-cigarettes valued at $3,720, 30 water pipes valued at $6,000, 12 baskets and $200 in coins were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 3900 block of North Lavergne Avenue was burglarized between 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24, and 9:10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to the home she discovered that the bathroom window was open and that jewelry valued at $15,600 and $1,500 in cash were missing, according to police.
