Local Crime from 16th District 11-9-2016
A MAN WAS shot in an apparent gang-related incident at about 1:20 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, in the 7100 block of West Addison Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responding to a report of shots fired discovered that a group of gang members were celebrating the Chicago Cubs World Series victory at Harlem Avenue and Addison, according to police. As officers were controlling the crowds at the intersection, group began walking east to a home on Addison and someone shouted gang slogans and a man fired seven to 10 shots in the direction of the group and fled in a gangway, police said. Two parked vehicles were struck by bullets, police said.
Officers saw a gang member enter a home in the 7100 block of Addison, and while some officers entered the home, others discovered a man outside the building lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the lower leg, according to police. The man was treated at Community First Medical Center, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked at about 4:15 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, in the 5500 block of West Devon Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 31-year-old man reported that as he was riding his motorcycle with a 23-year-old female passenger, a vehicle cut him off, almost causing him to crash, according to police. The man said that he followed the vehicle, and that when he told the driver to watch his driving, the man laughed and threw a bottle out the window that struck the woman in the forehead, police said.
The man reported that he saw the car strike a vehicle in Lincolnwood and that the man continued driving, according to police. The woman was treated at Resurrection Hospital, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that a man pointed a rifle and a gun at him at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, in the 6200 block of West Roscoe Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 51-year-old man reported that as he was standing on the sidewalk, a man drove up and pointed a rifle and then a handgun at him and asked him if he wanted to buy the weapons, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that a man threatened him with a gun at about 5:15 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, in the 6000 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 30-year-old man reported that a man was acting suspiciously at the Speed Motion Performance auto repair shop, 6069 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to police. The man said that he saw a man reach into a vehicle and saw the butt of a gun in his waistband, police said.
The man reported that when he confronted the man, he said that he needed his vehicle back immediately and told him, "Make sure my car is fixed by tomorrow or you will die with him," cocked the gun and fled in a car driven by a second man, police said.
A TEENAGER reported that his backpack was stolen and that he was threatened with a gun at about 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, near Green Park in the 6500 block of North Tahoma Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 14-year-old teen reported that as he was playing basketball with a 25-year-old man, they saw a wallet on the court and he placed his backpack over the wallet, according to police. The teen said that a car drove up and two men got out of the vehicle asking about the wallet, and that one of them picked up the backpack to reveal the wallet, lifted his shirt to show a gun in the waistband and took the backpack containing a cell phone and the wallet, police said.
AN EMPLOYEE of the 7-Eleven store, 6540 W. Belmont Ave., reported that a man and a woman stole cases of beer at about 7:40 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 40-year-old man reported that a man and a woman entered the store and took three cases of beer and fled, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Jewel-Osco store, 6430 W. Irving Park Road, reported that a man took cases of alcohol on Oct. 27 and Nov. 4, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The manager reported that a worker in the pharmacy told her that the stock room alarm went off at about 10:10 p.m. Oct. 27, according to police. The woman reported that she discovered that the rear door was open and that a case of whiskey and a case of vodka valued at $659 were missing, police said. A video shows a man take the items and flee through the back door, police said.
A similar incident was reported at about 7:10 p.m. Nov. 4, in which a video shows a man take a case of vodka and a case of liquor valued at $598 and flee through the back door, police said.
THEFTS OF catalytic converters from vehicles were reported between Oct. 30 and Nov. 7, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 4800 and 4900 blocks of North McVicker Avenue, the 5200 block of North Newcastle Avenue, the 5300 block of North New England Avenue, the 5000 and 5100 blocks of North Major Avenue, the 5700 block of North Marmora Avenue, the 5000 block of North Mango Avenue, the 5400 block of North Monitor Avenue and the 5800 block of West Catalpa Avenue, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that Giordano’s Pizzeria, 5927 W. Irving Park Road, was burglarized between 11:20 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, and 3 p.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she arrived at the restaurant she discovered that an office door was open and that $840 in cash was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 6000 block of West Higgins Avenue was burglarized at about 9 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear door was open and that four tires and rims and a saw valued at $3,000 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his brother’s home in the 5300 block of West Berteau Avenue was burglarized between 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, and 8:30 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he went to his brother’s home to do carpentry work and discovered that tools valued at $525, two drills valued at $500, drill chargers valued at $300, a saw valued at $200 and electrical wire were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5500 block of West Eddy Street was burglarized between 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, and midnight the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear window was open and that jewelry valued at $5,000 was missing, according to police.
