Local Crime from 16th District 12-11-13
A WOMAN reported that a woman attempted to scam her at about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 87-year-old woman reported that she received a phone call from a person claiming to be her granddaughter who said that she had been in an accident and that she needed money to get out of jail, according to police. The woman said that she went to her bank to withdraw $5,000 and that bank employees called her son, who said that the daughter had not been in an accident, police said.
A WOMAN reported that a man robbed her at about 5:25 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, in the 5300 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 52-year-old woman reported that a man displayed a knife and took her wallet containing $12 and her driver’s license, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, in the 6800 block of West Byron Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 33-year-old man reported that two men punched him, threw him to the ground and took his wallet containing a debit card, according to police.
One of the men was described as white, 5-8 to 5-10 and 160 to 175 pounds. The other man was described as white/Hispanic, age 25 to 29, 5-8 to 5-10 and 160 to 175 pounds.
A TEENAGER reported that a man attempted to rob him at about 7:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in the 5000 block of West Roscoe Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 16-year-old teen reported that a man demanded his cell phone and that when he refused, the man pointed a BB gun at him and a struggle ensued, according to police. The teen said that when he grabbed the gun, the man bit him on the wrist and fled south on Leclaire Avenue, police said.
The man was described as black, age 16 to 18, 5-6 and 170 pounds, and wearing a gray ski mask and a black hooded sweatshirt.
A MAN WAS arrested on burglary charges at about 1:55 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, following an incident in the 6100 block of West Dakin Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a report of a man bleeding in a back yard of a home on Dakin, and a 65-year-old woman reported that she saw the man bleeding and talking on a cell phone and that he fled from the yard, according to police. A rear window of the woman’s home was broken, and there were blood splatters at the scene, police said.
Officers followed a blood trail from Dakin to the 6100 block of West Irving Park Road and found the suspect with injuries consistent with having been cut by a broken window, and the man was arrested after he was identified by the woman in a photo spread, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Ihab M. Ihmoud, age 21, of the 2900 block of North Narragansett Avenue.
A MAN WAS arrested on burglary charges following an incident at about 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Hops and Barley, 4361 N. Milwaukee Ave., and Panaderia Guatemalteca Bakery, 4363 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers who responded to a report of a burglary found broken glass at the two businesses and a man walking in the alley with three bottles of alcohol, a pizza, a phone and $91 in cash in his possession, according to police. The man was arrested after he was identified by a witness, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Sergio M. Plata, age 23, of the 4800 block of North Milwaukee Avenue.
AN EMPLOYEE of the 7-Eleven store, 6000 W. Higgins Ave., reported that two men took items at about 3:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that two men asked to use the restroom then left the store, according to police. The employee said that they returned a short time later and that one of them created a diversion and the other took two USB chargers and a cell phone charger, police said.
A WOMAN reported that her iPhone was stolen at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, while she was on a bus in the 4800 block of West Lawrence Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 27-year-old woman reported that she felt that a man brush up against her and then discovered that her cell phone was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 5500 block of North Central Avenue was burglarized between 1:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that 12 compact discs valued at $100, two speakers valued at $400, a tool box valued at $200, a saw valued at $150 and a Dremel saw valued at $1,500 were missing, according to police.
A man reported that the garage of his home in the 5500 block of North Luna Avenue was burglarized between 10:30 pm. Friday, Dec. 6, and 4 p.m. the following day, according to police.
The man reported that he discovered that a snow blower valued at $800, tools and a toolbox valued at $1,000 and a bicycle valued at $875 were missing, police said.
A WOMAN was arrested on battery charges at about 12:20 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, in the 3500 block of North Marmora Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers who responded to a report of a domestic disturbance saw the woman being abusive to family members, and as she was being placed into custody, she allegedly kicked one of the officers in the groin and kicked a second officer in the shin and spit on him, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Doris Rodriguez, age 18, of the 3500 block of North Marmora Avenue.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 6200 block of West Addison Street was burglarized between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the front door was unlocked and that three gold necklaces, eight gold necklaces, $2,000 in cash, three checks and two coats were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 6200 block of West Melrose Street was burglarized between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she was putting up Christmas decorations with her husband and left the rear door open and that she discovered that $4,000 in cash and two gold rings were missing, according to police.
