Local Crime from 16th District 3-4-20
A MAN WAS arrested on drug charges after police searched an apartment in the 4900 block of West Hutchinson Street at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers conducting a search warrant knocked on a door and heard several people running inside the residence before prying it open to execute the warrant, police said. Officers saw that four people fled the rear door of the apartment and they were detained and they arrested the target of the search warrant, police said.
Officers discovered an estimated 12 pounds of a substance suspected of being cannabis, 46 vaping cartridges containing THC oil totaling 50.6 grams, 12 pills suspected to be alprazolam and a variety of equipment commonly used in the manufacture and distribution of narcotics, as well as documents confirming residency of the suspect, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Mario Mora, age 30, of the 4900 block of West Hutchinson Street. He was charged with one count of manufacturing and delivering cannabis in excess of 5,000 grams and one count of possession of a controlled substance, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, in the 4200 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 25-year-old man reported that he was walking when two men him wearing masks told him to give them his wallet and one of them grabbed him by the throat while the other reached into his back pocket and took $40 in cash from his wallet and fled northbound on North Central Avenue, police said.
The men were described as 6-0.
A WOMAN reported that she was struck by a brick that was thrown through her window at about 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, in the 6300 block of West Touhy Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she was sleeping on the couch when she heard a loud crash from her front window and was hit by broken glass and a brick with a note attached it to it that said to leave town, according to police.
The woman reported that she suffered a laceration to her left knee from the broken glass but refused emergency services, police said.
A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly threatened several people with a gun at about 10:20 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, in the 3300 block of North Cicero Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 40-year-old man reported that while he was stopped in traffic a man approached his vehicle and pointed a gun at him and his passengers, according to police. Responding officers saw a man matching a description walking westbound on School Street and when the man saw police, he fled to the west alley of Cicero Avenue and following a brief chase the man detained, police said.
Officers found a 9mm handgun with 14 live rounds abandoned in a backyard in the 4800 block of West School Street and a knotted sandwich bag with white powder, suspected to be heroin, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Oscar Nava, age 25, of the 4800 block of West Schubert Avenue, and charged him with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of unlawful use of a weapon and one count of possession of a controlled substance.
A MAN WAS attacked at about 12:10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, in the 5100 block of West Montrose Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 51-year-old man reported that he was standing at the corner of Montrose Avenue and Laramie Avenue when three men approached him and one of the men punched him above the left eye, causing him to fall to the ground and hit his forehead on the sidewalk, according to police. The man was treated at Community First Hospital, police said.
WITNESSES reported a fire to a garage in the 7800 block of West Forest Preserve Drive at about 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A witness reported hearing a loud boom, then a "pop pop" sound and sparks coming from the electrical pole in the alley, according to police. A Chicago Fire Department unit on scene determined the cause of the garage fire was a pair of fires started in garbage cans near the pole, police said.
A WOMAN reported her neighbor’s home in the 5200 block of North LaPorte Avenue was burglarized between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she noticed the side door of the home was open , which was unusual since the neighbor never opens the side door and the home owner reported that jewelry valued at $2,000 and tools valued at $1,350 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 5300 block of North Lotus Avenue was burglarized between 7:45 a.m. and 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that rear door had been forced open and electronics valued at $5,400, jewelry valued at $4,000 and $500 in cash ere missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that she was the victim of a scam at her home in the 5800 block of West Higgins Avenue between 3:30 and 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that a friend came to visit and as she let the woman in two men approached and told her they were with the water department and needed to have a look at the pipes in her home, according to police.
The woman reported that she let the men inside and that one of the men went to her bedroom and started going through her belonging, police said. The woman reported that she told the men they weren’t with the water department and needed to leave when the other man pointed out the rear window of her home and told her to look at their truck parked in the alley and when she looked the two men fled out the front door, according to police. The woman reported that jewelry valued at $1,000 was missing, police said.
AN EMPLOYEE of Fade by Tom, 5812 W. Irving Park Road, reported that the business was burglarized at about 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that the front window had been broken and that an automated teller machine valued at $3,500 containing an unknown amount of cash was missing, according to police.
