Local Crime from 16th District 3-9-2016
A MAN WAS SHOT at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, March 6, in the 6000 block of North Elston Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 23-year-old man reported that he was standing outside his car talking on the phone and that a man wearing a mask fired a gun at him, with bullets striking his left leg, according to police. The man was treated at Lutheran General Hospital, police said.
THREE MEN were arrested on robbery and other charges following an incident at about 3 p.m. Monday, March 7, in the 4800 block of North Austin Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 34-year-old owner of a restaurant reported that two men entered the business, displayed handguns, struck him on the head and took keys to his Cadillac Escalade and a Mercedes Benz, according to police. The man said that he broke the front window the restaurant with a chair and fled, police said.
A witness reported that he saw the two men get into a car driven by a third man, according to police. Officers stopped a car that matched the description that was provided on the Kennedy Expressway, and the occupants of the car were arrested after they were identified, police said. Officers discovered two handguns and bags containing substances suspected of being crack cocaine, powder cocaine and marijuana in the car, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Jairo Ospina, age 28, of the 1600 block of North Kedvale Avenue, Pedro R. Cruz, age 27, of the 3700 block of West Wilson Avenue, and Alexander J. Garcia, age 29, of the 5100 block of West Fletcher Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked at about 12:50 p.m. Sunday, March 6, in the 5000 block of West Addison Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 72-year-old man reported that when he confronted a man who was following him, the man punched him in the mouth and he pushed the man with his cane, according to police. The man said that a second man emerged from a gangway and the men fled, police said.
EMPLOYEES reported that the TCF Bank in the Jewel-Osco store, 4734 N. Cumberland Ave., was robbed at about 1:15 p.m. Sunday, March 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported that a man handed her a note demanding money and implied that he had a gun and that she gave him $2,600, according to police.
The man was described as white, age 40 to 50, 5-8 to 5-10 and 150 to 170 pounds, and wearing a baseball cap, blue jeans, a vest over a white sweatshirt and white sneakers.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 4:45 p.m. Friday, March 4, at Martin’s Fresh Market, 5900 W. Montrose Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 19-year-old man reported that he was working on a computer and that two men entered the store and one of them displayed a handgun and ordered him to open the register, according to police. The man said that when he told them that he did not know how to work the register the men took his wallet, police said.
A WOMAN reported that the garage of her home in the 3900 block of North Paris Avenue was burglarized between 8:30 p.m. Friday, March 4, and 8:50 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she discovered that the side door of the garage was unlocked and that a vacuum cleaner, a bicycle, a leaf blower and a lawn mower were missing, according to police.
A man reported that his garage on the same block also was burglarized between 8 p.m. Friday, March 4, and 11 a.m. the following day, police said.

A MAN REPORTED that his car was burglarized between 7 p.m. Thursday, March 3, and 7 a.m. the following day while it was parked in the 5000 block of West Henderson Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he forgot to lock his Chevrolet Malibu and that when he retuned to the vehicle he discovered that a Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale test valued at $1,500 was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 4600 block of North Leamington Avenue was burglarized between 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, and 4:15 p.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that the service door had been forced open and that tools valued at $1,880 were missing, according to police.
THEFTS OF catalytic converters from vehicles were reported between March 1 and March 2 on the Northwest Side, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 5400 block of North East River Road, the 7100 block of West Farragut Avenue, the 4900 block of North Merrimac Avenue, the 5300 block of West Windsor Avenue and the 5000 block of North Mobile Avenue, according to police.
