Local Crime from 16th District 5-2-18
SHOTS were fired at a home in the 3500 block of North Narragansett Avenue at about 9:35 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 24-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman reported that they heard gunshots fired in the front of their residence and that when they looked out the window, they saw a man who entered the passenger side of a black 4-door Buick and drove away, according to police.
The man and woman reported that following the shooting they heard a man attempting to enter the side gate of their backyard, according to police. The man and the woman reported that they approached the man with the woman’s registered handgun and that the man threatened her and they exchanged gunfire while she was still on her property before the man entered a black sport utility vehicle and drove away westbound following a white minivan, police said.
Officers recovered four shell casings in front of the residence and 10 shell casings in the alley, and they discovered a bullet hole in the rear window of a residence in the 6300 block of West Eddy Street, according to police.
A TEENAGER reported that he was robbed at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 22, in the 6300 block of West Ardmore Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 17-year-old teenager reported that while he was walking, he heard someone call his name as three people wearing black bandanas over their faces approached him, kicked and punched him, and took $30 from his wallet, according to police.
EMPLOYEES of the Sprint store, 4800 W. Irving Park Road, reported that two men took items at about 5:35 p.m. Thursday, April 26, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Employees reported that two men entered the store and approached a cell phone display, and took two iPhone X Plus cell phones valued at $2,000, two Samsung Galaxy Note cell phones valued at $1,600 and a Samsung Galaxy S8 valued at $500 from the display before they fled, police said.
The men were described as black and age 20 to 25.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that a man shoplifted an item from the T-Mobile store, 4809 W. Irving Park Road, at about 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that a man entered the store and began to talk to her about a credit application, and that when she was busy, he took a JBL speaker valued at $300 and ran out of the store without paying for the item, according to police.
The man was described as black and age 20 to 30.
A WOMAN reported that a man attacked her at about 6:35 p.m. Friday, April 27, inside the Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant, 4867 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 37-year-old woman reported that while she was sitting by herself at a window seat, a customer who purchased a cup of coffee approached her, punched her in the face and threw the cup of hot coffee at her face before he exited the restaurant, according to police. The woman reported that as the man exited the restaurant, two men attempted to stop him before he fled southbound and an employee reported that the man is a regular customer, police said. It didn’t appear that the woman knew the man, police said.
The man was described as white, age 20 to 35, 5-7 to 5-9 and between 130 and 145 pounds, with a curly black shoulder-length hairstyle and wearing a black hooded jacket, an orange shirt, khaki pants and black shoes, and carrying a cream-colored messenger bag.
A COUPLE reported that they were robbed between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 28, in the garage of their residence in the 5500 block of West School Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 48-year-old man and 50-year-old woman reported that while they were in the garage cleaning, a man armed with a blue semi-automatic handgun and a man with a knife entered the garage, approached them and said, "Give me all your jewelry, don’t do anything or you will die right now," according to police. The man and woman reported that the men took three gold necklaces and three gold bracelets from them before they fled westbound through an alley, police said.
A MAN WAS arrested for allegedly stealing money at about 10:20 a.m. Friday, April 27, at Saint Francis Borgia Church, 8033 W. Addison St., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 65-year-old man reported that while the church was open he saw a man open several drawers inside the church and remove cash from the drawers and place the cash inside his pocket, according to police. The man was arrested after officers recovered $121 in cash from the man that they returned to the church, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as James W. Houston, age 61, of the 1600 block of West Juneway Terrace.
AN EMPLOYEE of White Star Cleaners, 5401 W. Montrose Ave., reported that the business was burglarized between 9:30 p.m. Sunday, April 22, and 6:30 a.m. Monday, April 23, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that when he arrived at the business he discovered that the alarm control pad and two digital video recorders had been damaged and that a cash register was missing, an automatic teller machine had been forced open and emptied and a coin exchange machine had been damaged, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between 7 p.m. Saturday, April 28, and 7:50 a.m. Sunday, April 29, while it was parked in the driveway of his residence in the 6000 block of North Austin Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his vehicle he discovered that the steering column had been damaged and that a global positioning system valued at $150, a Bluetooth headset valued at $40 and a pair of glasses valued at $250 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between 7:15 a.m. and 2:20 p.m. Friday, April 27, while it was parked in the 8700 block of West Bryn Mawr Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his vehicle he discovered the passenger side door lock had been damaged and that tools valued at $1,200 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between 6 a.m. Saturday, April 21, and 6 a.m. Monday, April 23, while it was parked in the 5100 block of West Cullom Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his vehicle he discovered that the passenger side door lock had been damaged, and that tools valued at $6,990 were missing, according to police.
SEVERAL catalytic converter thefts were reported between April 18 and 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Stolen catalytic converters were reported in the 5600 block of West Gunnison Street, the 4200 block of North Monitor Avenue, the 4100, 4200 and 4800 blocks of North Major Avenue and the 4100 block of North Major Avenue, according to police.
