A NORTHWEST SIDE woman was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of a 3-year-old girl who was found dead at about 8:25 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at a home in the 3300 block of North Natchez Avenue, according to the Chicago Police Department.
The suspect was identified by police as Maria Espinoza-Peres, age 24, of the 3300 block of North Natchez Ave, according to police.
The child died of multiple injuries as a result of blunt trauma apparently stemming from child abuse, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
OFFICERS are looking for a man in connection with a reported attempt to lure a 15-year-old girl into a car at about 8 a.m. Thursday, May 15, in the 5400 block of West Roscoe Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The teenager reported that a man in a white sport utility vehicle called out to her and told her, "Get in the car," according to police. The teen reported that she thought that she saw the same vehicle near her school, police said.
The man was described as white or white/Hispanic, age 27 to 35, 5-7 to 5-10 and 150 to 170 pounds, with a goatee and wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
A 14-YEAR-OLD girl reported that a cab driver and a passenger attempted to lure her into a vehicle at about 1:45 p.m. Sunday, May 18, in the 5400 block of North Olcott Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The girl reported that the car driver told her that his client wanted to give her a ride and she saw that a man sitting in the back seat smiling at her, according to police.
The driver was described as age 35 to 40 and the passenger was described as age 30 to 35.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about midnight Wednesday, May 14, in the 4700 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 22-year-old man reported that a man displayed a handgun and took his wallet containing $70 in cash and a pair of Nike Air Jordan shoes valued at $400, according to police.
TWO WOMEN reported that two men broke into their home in the 3900 block of North Central Avenue at about 6 p.m. Sunday, May 11, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The women reported that they were picking up some clothing for a relative who was in the hospital and that when the answered a knock on the back door, a man pushed one of them in the kitchen, ordered them to the floor while a second man kept watch, according to police. The women, age 27 and 43, reported that one of the men searched the home for about 45 minutes before the two left with unknown items, police said.
A WOMAN reported that she was the victim of a scam between May 6 and May 14, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 82-year-old woman reported that she received a phone call from a person who said he was the boyfriend of her granddaughter who needed money to get out of jail, according to police. The woman said that a second person who said he was a police officer told her that he would help her if she purchased several MoneyPak card and loaded $500 each on the cards, police said.
The woman reported that over several days she purchased 33 cards valued at $16,500, and that the man eventually called her and told her that her grandson had sustained injuries and he needed $50,000, according to police. The woman said that when she spoke to her accountant, the accountant told her to call the police, according to police.
A MAN WAS arrested on assault and theft charges following an incident at about 9:10 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at CVS Pharmacy, 4777 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported that she saw a man leave the store without paying for $74 worth of merchandise, and officers stopped the suspect on a Chicago Transit Authority Blue line train based on the description that was provided, according to police. A 54-year-old witness reported that he saw the man leave the store without paying for the items and when he confronted him in the Jefferson Park CTA terminal, the man pointed a knife at him and threatened to kill him, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Derris Holloway, age 54, of the 4700 block of North Maplewood Avenue.
A MAN WAS arrested on drug charges at about 12:10 a.m. Friday, May 16, in the 6100 block of North Legett Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers who responded to a report of a suspicious person found a vehicle containing two men that smelled of marijuana, according to police. The driver was arrested after officers found 60 grams of a substance suspected of being marijuana in a backpack in the car, two scales and $490 in cash, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Sean Oboyle, age 19, of the 6100 block of North Naper Avenue.
THREE MEN WERE arrested on assault charges following an incident at about 2:25 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, in the 4800 block of West Waveland Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 37-year-old man reported that as he was passing by a vehicle containing three men that was double-parked, the men shouted gang slogans and threatened him, according to police. The suspects were arrested based on the description that was provided, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Francisco J. Garcia, age 18, of the 3100 block of North Kolmar Avenue, Deven R. Weathers, age 19, of the 5000 block of West Monroe Street, and Xadrian Wilkins, age 18, of the 4800 block of West Warwick Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked in a gang-related incident at about 4:05 a.m. Saturday, May 17, in the 5500 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 25-year-old man reported that he was a passenger in a car that was being driven by his wife and that a vehicle struck them from the rear and a man got out, shouted gang slogans and punched him in the face, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5700 block of North Oketo Avenue was burglarized at about 7 p.m. Sunday, May 18, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the back door had been forced open and that a revolver, a television set valued at $500 and jewelry valued at $200 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 5400 block of West Sunnyside Avenue was burglarized at about 8:20 a.m. Monday, May 19, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that seven watches, a Play Station 3 video game console, a Nintendo Wee video game console, a necklace, bottles of alcohol and headphones were missing, according to police.
