Local Crime from 16th District 7-4-18
A MAN REPORTED that he was threatened with a handgun at about 2:30 a.m. Friday, June 29, while he was driving his vehicle in the 6800 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 32-year-old man reported that a man driving a dark blue sport utility vehicle was tailgating him, and that when he stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of North Oak Park Avenue and West Irving Park Road, the man drove up next to him and pointed a handgun before he drove away eastbound, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant, 5050 N. Cicero Ave., reported that the business was burglarized at about 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that another employee arrived at the restaurant at about 4 a.m. and discovered that a door to an office had been forced open and that a safe containing $500 in cash was missing and $3,500 in cash was missing from another safe, according to police. The employee reported that surveillance footage shows a man prying the safe open while another man was looking out before they both fled, police said.
Both men were described as wearing long-sleeve white shirts, multi-colored construction vests and black pants.
A WOMAN REPORTED that a man took her purse at about 8:55 a.m. Monday, June 25, in the 5800 block of West Higgins Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 66-year-old woman reported that while she was waiting at a bus stop, a man approached her from behind and took her purse valued at $40 containing her Samsung cell phone valued at $300, keys and books and fled, according to police
The man was described as white Hispanic, age 30, 6-0 and 200 pounds with short brown hair.
A MAN REPORTED that three men attempted to rob him at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, July 1, at Oriole Park, 5430 N. Olcott Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that while he was walking in the park, three men approached him and tried to take his cell phone, and that as he ran away they followed him for a few blocks, according to police.
Two of the men were described as age 17 and 18, about 5-9 and 170 pounds, and one of the men was described as black, age 17 to 18, about 5-11 and 170 pounds, and wearing red shorts and white gym shoes.
EMPLOYEES of Garvy School, 5225 N. Oak Park Ave., and Hitch School, 5625 N. McVicker Ave., reported that several electronics were missing from the schools following recently performed audits, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The Garvy School employee reported that after performing an audit it was discovered that three Samsung Chromebook Series 3 laptop computers valued at $840 and two Dell Latitude laptop computers valued at $2,780 were missing, according to police.
The Hitch School employee reported that after performing an inventory on electronics it was discovered that five Apple MacBook laptop computers valued at $6,000, two Apple MacBook Air laptop computers valued at $1,800, four Apple iPad tablet computers valued at $3,600, an Asus Chromebook laptop computer valued at $250, six Samsung Chromebook laptop computers valued at $1,500, an Aver computer cart valued at $1,900, a Hewlett-Packard Pro laser jet printer, a Ricoh printer and a Minolta scanner were missing from a classroom, and that there were no signs of forced entry, police said.
TWO EMPLOYEES of the Walgreens store, 4343 N. Central Ave., reported that a woman shoplifted items and that a man threatened them with an alleged handgun at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, June 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employees reported that they saw a woman put various skin care items valued at approximately $500 inside her purse and that when they approached to stop her from exiting the store, the man gestured to the rear of his waistband and said he had a gun before the woman pulled on his arm and said, "You can’t touch him," and they both exited the store, entered a white two-door Cadillac and drove away, according to police.
The woman was described as white Hispanic. The man was described as black, age 25 to 30, about 5-5 and 140.
A MAN REPORTED that a man stole items from his garage in the 3300 block of North Oak Park Avenue between 5 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. Sunday, July 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he saw a man placing items that were removed from his garage into a red pickup truck, and that when he approached the man, he said, "It wasn’t me amigo," and then drove away, according to police.
The man reported that when he returned to his garage he discovered the rear double garage doors had been forced open and the overhead sliding door had been damaged, and that various tools valued at $3,790, a Sharp microwave oven valued at $2,000, a Kenmore gas grill valued at $500, a jogging stroller valued at $350, two portable air conditioner units valued at $300, a Mikita radio valued at $179 and a Genie garage door opening kit valued at $200 were missing, according to police.
SEVERAL catalytic converter thefts were reported between June 28 and July 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 4400 block of North Lockwood Avenue, the 5400 block of West Windsor Avenue, the 5300 and 5500 blocks of West Leland Avenue, the 5000 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue, the 4100 block of North Laramie Avenue and the 5400 block of West Foster Avenue, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized at about 9:40 a.m. Sunday, July 1, while it was parked in the 5200 block of North Oleander Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to the car he discovered his Apple iPad Air tablet computer valued at $600 was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his motor scooter was stolen between 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, and 8 p.m. Saturday, June 30, from the rear yard of his residence in the 5000 block of West Addison Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to the back yard he discovered his gray 2018 General Moped Company motor scooter was missing, according to police.
