Local Crime from 17th District 2-9-19
A TEENAGER was arrested for allegedly threatening an off-duty police officer with a gun at about 5:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, in the area near Kimball and Lawrence avenues, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
An officer reported that he was exiting his residence when a tan-colored Lexus with two male occupants drove up and the driver rolled down the window and asked, "Do you remember me?" according to police. The officer reported that he replied no and the driver then said, "I should smoke you right now," and pointed a handgun at him before he drove away, police said.
Officers recognized the driver’s picture from the 17th Police District’s list of flagged subjects, went to his house the next day and spoke to the suspect’s mother, who turned in her son to police at about 10:30 a.m. Feb. 4, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as 16-year-old male.
SHOTS WERE fired at about noon Monday, Feb. 4, in an alley in the 4400 block of North Lawndale Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A 50-year-old Fed Ex driver reported that he saw someone in a light blue Mercury sedan chasing after and firing gunshots at a black Cadillac Seville with tinted windows that fled east from Lawndale to the north alley of Montrose Avenue, and officers recovered four spent .45-caliber bullet in the alley, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was threatened at gunpoint in an apparent road rage incident at about 12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, while driving in the 3900 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 34-year-old man reported that he was driving when a man in a gray 2006 Toyota Camry cut him off, and that they exchanged words and the Camry driver exited the vehicle and pointed a semiautomatic handgun at him, according to police. The 34-year-old reported that he asked, "What are you gonna shoot me?" and that the armed man replied yes before he slowly backed into the Camry and drove away west on Belmont, police said.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, about 6-0 and 180 pounds, with bald hair and a light brown skin complexion, and wearing a black jacket, black sweatshirt and blue jeans.
A WOMAN reported that she was thrown out of a vehicle during an apparent domestic-related incident at about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, in the 4900 block of North Saint Louis Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 24-year-old woman reported that she was inside her 32-year-old boyfriend’s blue/green 1994 Honda Del Sol when the man threw her out of the moving vehicle, and that he turned around and purposely struck her with the Honda before he drove away, according to police.
The man was described as white with a light complexion, age 32, with brown eyes and short sandy hair.
A WOMAN reported that a man broke into her apartment in the 3200 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue at about 7:15 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that she heard a noise coming from her living room and saw a man standing next to an opened window with his back facing her before he jumped back out the window, and that she was unsure if proceeds were missing at the time of the report, according to police.
A COUPLE reported that their apartment in the 3600 block of West School Street was burglarized between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The couple reported that when the man returned home he discovered that the front and rear doors were unlocked and the south kitchen window was open and that a PlayStation 4 videogame console, two controllers and a videogame valued at $580, a desktop computer and a laptop computer valued at $1,200 each, a USB device valued at $200 and a 6-inch hunting knife in a leather sheath valued at $30 were missing, according to police.
A HOME in the 4400 block of West Leland Avenue was burglarized between 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, and 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of an open door and discovered that the home’s front door was open with pry marks and the contents of bedroom dressers were tossed around, and when the resident returned later she reported that a gold and diamond wedding ring was missing from a jewelry box, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his apartment in the 3700 block of North Central Park Avenue was burglarized between 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that a side window was opened and the front door was unlocked and that a 55-inch smart television set valued at $800 was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 4400 block of North Spaulding Avenue was burglarized between 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, and 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that she left the rear basement door unlocked and that when she returned to her laundry room she discovered that a girl’s bicycle valued at $200 was missing, according to police.
LINCOLNWOOD
A MAN WAS arrested on drug charges at about 12:10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, in the parking lot of the Smoke Depot Lincolnwood store, 3350 W. Devon Ave, according to Lincolnwood police.
Officers responded to an occupied vehicle in the shop’s parking lot and smelled a marijuana odor coming from a 2013 Infiniti G37 with three 19-year-old men inside the vehicle, according to police. Upon searching the vehicle officers discovered a black backpack that contained a plastic bag containing 120 grams and a small glass jar containing 30 grams of a leafy substance suspected of being marijuana, two herb grinders, a smoking pipe, a plastic bag labeled "for medical cannabis use" containing gummy candies suspected of being marijuana edibles, two mason jars containing suspected cannabis hash residue, and about $170 in cash, police said.
All three men were taken into custody but two were eventually released without charges, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Jonathan Vera, age 19, of the 5500 block of North Winthrop Avenue.
SEVERAL vehicular burglaries were reported between 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, and 8:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, in the 6500 and 6700 blocks of North Le Mai Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
Two vehicular burglaries were reported in the 6700 block of Le Mai, and one was reported in the 6500 block of Le Mai, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her vehicle was burglarized between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, while parked in the lot of Planet Fitness, 6850 N. McCormick Blvd., according to Lincolnwood police.
The woman reported that when she returned to the vehicle she discovered that a pink Nike bag that she hid underneath the floorboards was missing, which contained a black Coach-brand wristlet bag valued at $130, a jeweled bracelet valued at $1,000, a driver’s license, a state ID and bank cards, her two daughters’ passport applications, bills, bank account documents and $120 in cash, according to police.
