Local Crime from 17th District 3-9-19
SHOTS WERE fired in the 3500 block of West School Street at about 9 p.m. Sunday, March 3, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A witness reported that gunshots were fired and that a black Honda vehicle fled east on School Street shortly after, and officers recovered 10 spent 9mm bullet casings, according to police.
A MAN WAS arrested for allegedly threatening two people with a baseball bat and damaging their property at about 8:40 p.m. Friday, March 1, in the 4700 block of West Byron Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A 53-year-old woman and 28-year-old man reported that a man struck the siding of their residence with a silver baseball bat and told them "I’ve been to jail before, I don’t mind going back, I’m going to kill one of you," and officers saw the man pointing the bat at the two people as they yelled at each other, and the man was arrested, according to police.
The suspect was identified as David Correa, age 46, of the 5600 block of North Keystone Avenue.
AN EMPLOYEE of a 7-Eleven store, 5610 N. Kimball Ave, reported that the store was robbed at gunpoint at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The employee reported that a man approached the counter with a black 9mm handgun and demanded cash and a carton of cigarettes, and took $100 in cash and 10 packs of cigarettes valued at about $130 before running away west through an alley, according to police.
The man was described as about 6-0, and wearing a full-face ski mask, a two-toned grey hat, a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, black gloves and white gym shoes.
AN EMPLOYEE of L&P Liquors, 4001 W. Lawrence Ave., reported that a man stole beer from the store and two men threatened her at gunpoint at about 9:20 p.m. Friday, March 1, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The employee reported that a man entered the store, took a 24 pack of beer and shouted "on the house" before running out the front door, and that she chased the man out the door when two other men approached her displaying black handguns before the three men fled through a south alley of Lawrence alley with the case of beer, according to police.
One of the armed men was described as black, age 18 to 20 and about 5-8 and 140 pounds, and the other armed man as white/Hispanic with a light complexion, age 20 to 22 and about 5-8 and 160 pounds. The man who stole beer was described as white/Hispanic, age 20 to 25, about 6-0 and 200 pounds, and wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt.
AN EMPLOYEE of Markellos Baking Company, 3520 W. Lawrence Ave., reported that the business was robbed at about 5:15 a.m. Saturday, March 2, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
An employee reported that a man and a woman entered the bakery and the man stood in front of the cashier counter while the woman opened the register, removed about $70 in cash and took the woman’s cellphone lying on the counter, and that when she confronted the woman she replied "ma’am, I don’t want to hurt you," and the man and woman fled west on Lawrence, according to police.
The man and the woman were described as white/Hispanic.
A COUPLE reported they were the victims of a scam at about 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, at their home in the 5000 block of North Hamlin Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The couple reported that three men knocked on their back door and said that they worked for the water department and needed to provide "emergency service," and that the male resident let them in and escorted one man to the basement while another man was at the kitchen sink with the woman and a third man was "checking the bedroom water," according to police.
The woman reported that she became suspicious and saw the third man in her bedroom with a pillowcase containing an 18-Karat gold watch, her gold wedding ring with diamonds and a pair of gold earrings, and that she screamed and the three men ran away through the rear door and north on Hamlin, police said.
All three men were described as having brown eyes, dark hair and light brown skin complexions. One man was further described as age 25 to 30, 5-7 to 5-10, and wearing a brown jacket, another as age 50 to 60, wearing a cream-colored shirt with designs and carrying a walkie-talkie, and the third as age 40 to 45, having crooked teeth and wearing a black jacket.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 4000 block of North Bernard Street was burglarized between 11:25 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Friday, March 1, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that three gold necklaces, a watch and 10 antique coins were missing, according to police.
TWO MEN reported that a man tried to break into their apartment in the 4700 block of North Saint Louis Avenue between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Friday, March 1, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The men reported that they viewed their surveillance camera footage that showed a man exiting a vehicle, using an object to pry open the rear security gate and entering their building through front door, and that the man tried to pry open their apartment unit door before he heard another person approaching and left the building, according to police.
The man was described as age 35 to 40 and wearing a blue sweatshirt and blue T-shirt.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5600 block of North Kerbs Avenue was burglarized between 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, and 9:15 a.m. Saturday, March 2, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned he discovered that the rear door and a side window were open, and that a microwave oven, a dishwasher and a fireplace toolset were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 4300 block of North Kimball Avenue was burglarized at about 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that her front door was unlocked, her home surveillance camera was knocked to the floor and her home security alarm was rebooted, and that she was unsure what proceeds were missing, if any, at the time of the report, according to police.
A HOME IN the 6000 block of North Kimball Avenue was burglarized at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Officers responded to an alarm and discovered that the rear door was damaged, and the resident reported that an unknown amount of jewelry was missing from a bedroom jewelry box and a cabinet, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his house in the 5100 block of North Kolmar Avenue was burglarized between 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the front door and rear kitchen door were open and that a jewelry box containing $5,000 worth of jewelry and precious metals, an iPad tablet computer valued at $1,000, a bank book and $1,000 in cash were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his house in the 4200 block of North Saint Louis Avenue was burglarized between 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, and 12:15 a.m. Friday, March 1, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered the front door and a side window open, and that a Nintendo Switch videogame console valued at $250, a bottle of scotch valued at $100 and three bottles of wine valued at $36 were missing, according to police.
A MAN AND a woman reported that their home in the 3500 block of North Albany Avenue was burglarized between 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, and 9 p.m. Sunday, March 3, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man and woman reported that when they returned home from a vacation they discovered that the rear door was open and a rear basement window was broken, and that a 50-inch television set valued at $600, a 40-inch television set valued at $400 and an Asus laptop computer valued at $300 were missing, according to police.

A MAN WAS charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following his arrest at about 10:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, in the 4000 block of West Touhy Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
A man reported that he was following a reckless driver in a blue Chevrolet Equinox sport utility vehicle that nearly sideswiped multiple vehicles and hit a raised sidewalk as it drove from the Edens Expressway onto Touhy Avenue, and officers observed the driver drift in lanes and "unreasonably" honk and yell at a vehicle turning into a parking lot in front of him before they stopped the car in the 4000 block of Touhy, according to police. The man was arrested after he failed sobriety tests, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Gene Phillips, age 33, of the 2200 block of North Lawler Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, and 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, while it was parked in the 6600 block of Minnehaha Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
The man reported that he parked his 2005 Ford Excursion sport utility vehicle unlocked in the driveway, and that when he returned he discovered that a jacket valued at $550 was missing, according to police.
