Longtime teller retires

by BRIAN NADIG
Parkway Bank teller Joyce Hubick is retiring after 60 years on the job in Downtown Jefferson Park.
"I balanced everyday for 60 years … to the penny," Hubick said. Her last day on the job is today, July 31.
Hubick, age 77, began working at Jefferson State Bank, 5301 W. Lawrence Ave., shortly after graduating from the former Tuley High School in 1959.
About 20 years ago Parkway acquired Jefferson State and closed the Lawrence location, relocating operations to the branch at 4854 N. Milwaukee Ave.
Customers have been stopping by the bank to bid her farewell.
"Thank you for all of your customer service to us. I do remember when I was a teenager, and you fixed my mom’s car in the bank’s garage. Of course, my parents remember that, too. Thanks for everything," one customer wrote in Hubick’s memory book.
In fact she has helped several customers with their cars. On one occasion a customer left Hubick the keys and she changed a flat tire during her break.
"I’m a jack of all trades. … With my husband, he’d fix everything, and I’d watch him," she said.
Hubick said that she fell in love with being a teller and never wanted to change jobs. She said that customers liked seeing a familiar face each time they entered the bank, serving generations of Jefferson Park families.
"I’ve worked with the parents and now I’m working with their kids," she said. "I’m going to miss everyone."
