by CYRYL JAKUBOWSKI
A Northwest Side man was charged with two counts of first degree murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend and his 7-year-old daughter, who were discovered by police at about 8:50 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at their home in the 3400 block of North Odell Avenue, according to Chicago police.
The suspect was identified by police as Maciej Kotlinski, age 35, of the 3400 block of North Odell Avenue.
Chicago police were alerted by Waukegan police, who responded earlier in the day to an incident involving a man who was suicidal and claimed to have harmed his family in Chicago, according to police. The man had a second girl with him who is his daughter, police said.
Officers conducted a well-being check at the Northwest Side home and discovered the two bodies, according to the Chicago Police Department Office of News Affairs. Officials said that family pets also were killed, police said.
The woman was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as Ania Kosinska, age 34, of the 3400 block of North Odell Avenue. The child was identified by the examiner’s office as Victoria Kotlinski, age 7, of the same address. They died of multiple stab wounds, the office said.
The slain girl was a student at Saint Francis Borgia School.
"The St. Francis Borgia Parish and School is devastated by the sudden and senseless loss of our second grader and her mother. Our school and parish staff will be fully present in the difficult days ahead to support our young people and counseling will be provided on site," a statement posted on the parish Web site said.
