Man dies following fire Jan. 2
A man died following an apartment fire at about 4 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, in the 6400 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to a still-and-box alarm at the apartment building and evacuated a man and his wife from the fifth floor of the building, according to the department. The man was pronounced dead in an emergency room at about 4:41 a.m., due to inhalation and thermal injuries, but the woman’s condition was stabilized and no other deaths were reported, according to a Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office spokeswoman.
The manner of death was ruled as accidental, according to the examiner’s office.
The man was identified by the medical examiner’s office as Radzislaw Sadzak, age 88, of the 6400 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue.
