Man dies in hit-run

A man died in a hit-and-run accident at about 1:40 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, in the 5400 block of West Irving Park Road after his vehicle struck another vehicle and wrapped around a tree, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Witnesses reported that a black Honda Civic that was being driven east on Irving Park at a high rate of speed struck a Ford minivan, which was also being driven fast, according to police. Police are investigating whether the two cars were drag racing, and witnesses reported that the driver of the van fled on foot following the crash, police said. The driver was described as wearing a burgundy shirt, police said.
The man who was killed was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as Cesar Diaz, age 38, of the 5300 block of West Berenice Avenue.
