Man fatally struck by CTA train

A man was fatally wounded after he was struck by a train at about 12:55 p.m. Monday, April 1, at the Montrose CTA Blue Line station, 4600 W. Montrose Ave., according to the Chicago Police Department Office of News Affairs.
A CTA employee reported that a man was standing on the platform and looked in the direction of the approaching train before he jumped on the tracks and was struck, according to police.
The man was discovered underneath the train and was being transported to Community First Medical Center when he was pronounced dead at about 1:26 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The incident halted trains on the Blue Line in both directions between the Addison and Harlem stations until train service was resumed at about 1:38 p.m., with delays lingering through the day, according to police.
State police were also called due to the proximity to the Kennedy Expressway, and detectives are investigating the incident as a death investigation and a possible suicide, police said.
The man was identified by the medical examiner’s office as Andrzej Churzepa, age 58, of the 6300 block of West Montrose Avenue.
