Pink Floyd, Beatles vs. Stones, Grateful Dead, Heart tributes & lots of kids’ activities set for Taste of Polonia

by BRIAN NADIG
A variety of children’s activities — both inside and outside — along with rock tributes, including Pink Floyd and a Beatles vs. Stones musical showdown, are just some of the many festivities planned for “Taste of Polonia 2025” over Labor Day weekend at the Copernicus Center, 5216 W. Lawrence Ave., in Jefferson Park.
“We are planning … a lot of cool things … for kids and families,” Copernicus Center executive director Kamila Sumelka said.
On Saturday, Sunday and Monday, the center’s air-conditioned annex will be home to interactive art workshops, directed drawing, a photo booth, building blocks, a puzzle station, origami, do-it-yourself crafts and a variety of games.
There also will be a free movie screening at 5 p.m., featuring “Wild Robot” on Saturday, “The Garfield Movie” on Sunday and “Mufasa: The Lion King” on Monday. “They’ll be blankets,” Sumelka said. “You can wrap yourself in a blanket and watch a movie.”
It also will have a “Carnival Corner” outside on the festival grounds. A $15 all-day wristband will give children access to bounce houses, obstacle courses, giant board games and more.
In all, the festival will have three stages, hosting more than 50 musical, comedy and cultural performances.
Scheduled performances on the “Tribute Stage” include The Polkaholics at 5 p.m., Heart 2 Heartbreaker at 6:30 p.m. and Sixteen Candles at 8:30 p.m. Friday; Howl2Go dueling pianos at 4:45 p.m., Lance Lipinsky & The Lovers at 6:30 p.m. and Think Floyd USA at 8:30 p.m. Saturday; Who’s Who at 4:45 p.m., Recaptured (Journey) at 6:30 p.m. and Gentlemen of Leisure at 8:30 p.m. Sunday; and Terrapin Flyer (Grateful Dead) at 5:30 p.m. and Beatles vs. Stones at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
The “Polish Stage” will include Kamil Bednarek, Voo Voo, Vox and Tabu. Polish stand-up comedy performances also are planned.

Free parking and shuttles will be available at the Irish-American Heritage Center, 4626 N. Knox Ave.
The festival will be held Aug. 29 to Sept. 1, opening at 5 p.m. Friday, and noon the other days, with a Holy Mass at 11 a.m. Sunday.
The festival grounds are a block south of the Jefferson Park CTA Blue Line stop on Chicago’s Northwest Side.
