Polish American Congress, National Italian American Foundation to sign agreement on charitable, advocacy initiatives

The Polish American Congress and the National Italian American Foundation on April 13 will sign a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a new framework for cooperation that will reflect their shared values and aligned missions.

The agreement will be signed by Hubert Cioromski, president of the Polish American Congress, and Robert Allegrini, president and chief executive officer of the NIAF.

The signing ceremony will take place at noon Monday at the Copernicus Center, 5216 W. Lawrence Ave., in Jefferson Park on Chicago’s NW Side.

Under the agreement, the two organizations intend to collaborate on charitable initiatives, including preservation of cultural heritage such as arts, history, language, literature, music and traditions; advocacy efforts engaging U.S. policymakers on issues affecting both Polish American and Italian American communities; and cultural exchange and heritage education programs along with cultural and professional exchanges, including speakers, scholars, and exhibitions.

Also planned are youth engagement and leadership development initiatives, including scholarships, internships and educational programming, and public communications efforts, highlighting the contributions and achievements of both communities.

The two groups also are agreeing to explore a broader council of European American organizations in an effort to strengthen cooperation and collective advocacy.

The agreement is non-binding but reflects a commitment to good-faith cooperation and is intended to remain in effect for an initial 3-year period, with the possibility of renewal, according to the PAC and NIAF.

Founded in 1944, the PAC is a national umbrella organization representing over 10 million Americans of Polish descent and Polish American institutions across the United States.

The PAC provides national leadership in civic, political, and cultural life. Its mission includes strengthening U.S.- Poland relations, promoting Polish heritage, encouraging civic participation, and advocating for the interests of Polish Americans at all levels of government.

The NIAF, founded in 1975 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a leading national organization representing the Italian American community. The NIAF works to preserve Italian heritage, promote educational and cultural programs, support scholarships, and strengthen ties between the U.S. and Italy. The Foundation actively engages in public policy and advocacy on issues affecting Italian Americans.
