Several robberies, sexual assault on CTA train, among recent crimes reported on Northwest Side

A man reported that two men robbed him at about 2:10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, in an alley of the 3800 block of North Laramie Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

The 46-year-old man reported that he was walking his dogs when two men approached him and demanded his necklace, according to police. The man reported that he refused and one of the men pointed a small handgun and demanded the necklace again, police said.

The man reported that he refused, then challenged the man to shoot him, according to police. The man reported that the man put the gun away and both men pushed him to the ground, then kicked and punched him in the face and back, police said. The man reported that the men took his necklace and fled, according to police.

One of the men was described as White/Hispanic, age 25 to 30 and 5-7, and wearing a black beanie hat, a black medical mask and a black shirt. The other man was described as White/Hispanic, age 25 to 30 and 5-10, and wearing a black beanie hat, black medical mask, blue jeans and a white shirt.

A man reported that a man attempted to rob him at about 4:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, in the 5100 block of West Henderson Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

The 58-year-old man reported that he was doing yard work when a man rode up on a bicycle and tried to take his leaf blower valued at $600, according to police.

The man reported that he ran over and grabbed one end of the blower while the man tried to pull it away from him, police said. The man reported that the offender pulled out a pocket knife so he yelled to a passing tow truck driver for help and the man fled east on Henderson on his bicycle, according to police.

The man was described as 6-0 with short hair, and wearing a red T-shirt.

A woman reported that she was sexually assaulted at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept 18, while on a train that left the Jefferson Park CTA Blue Line station, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

The 24-year-old woman reported that she boarded the train with a friend and that as she was standing a man began rubbing his genitals against her body, police said. The woman reported that she exited at the next stop and changed trains, according to police,

The assailant was described as Black, age 40 to 50, 5-5 to 5-7 and 175 pounds, and wearing a black baseball cap, sunglasses, and dark pants.

Two men were arrested on drug charges at about 6:10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, following surveillance of a location of reported drug activity in the 7500 block of North Olcott Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

Officers conducting surveillance saw a man going back and forth between a residence and a vehicle and suspected drug activity, according to police. Officers also saw a second vehicle pull up and a driver met up with the man and they believed that a drug deal had taken place, police said.

Officers stopped a Chevrolet Equinox in the 7100 block of West Touhy Avenue and smelled an odor of cannabis and the driver allegedly had expired insurance, according to police. Officers discovered several containers and packages containing suspected cannabis in the vehicle and the man was arrested, police said.

Officers also stopped a Toyota Corolla in the 7400 block of North Milwaukee Avenue and smelled a strong smell of cannabis and discovered about 285 grams of a substance suspected of being cannabis in several containers, according to police.

The suspects were identified by police as Kevin R. Brumley Jr., age 44, of the 7500 block of North Olcott Avenue, and Ivan I. Ortiz, age 32, of the 4700 block of North Milwaukee Ave.

A man was arrested on drug charges at about 5:35 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, in the 3300 block of North Oconto Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

Officers saw a man whom they knew from previous incidents driving a vehicle, ran the license plate information and discovered he did not have a valid driver’s license so they stopped him, according to police.

Officers smelled fresh cannabis coming from the vehicle, asked the man about the smell and he provided a plastic bag containing suspected cannabis, police said. Officers asked the man to exit the vehicle, detained him and allegedly recovered a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine during a vehicle search, according to police.

 The suspect was identified by police as Samuel M. Dodd Jr., age 21, address unlisted.

A 15-year-old teenager was arrested at about 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, in an alley of the 3400 block of North Osceola Avenue, after officers received a call that multiple teens were trying to sell cannabis inside Taco Bell, 3509 N. Harlem Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

A Taco Bell employee reported that the teens fled west on Cornelia before officers arrived and provided descriptions of two teenagers, according to police.

Officers located two teens matching the descriptions and one of them was riding a motorized scooter, police said. When the teenager on the scooter saw officers approaching, he grabbed an object on the side of his pants that was the approximate size and shape of a handgun and fled on the scooter, according to police.

Officers followed the teen until he abandoned the scooter and fled through residential yards on foot, police said. Officers returned to the other teen, who fled south in the east alley of the 3400 block of Osceola, and detained him, according to police.

Officers smelled fresh cannabis coming from the backpack and a search revealed the teen possessed approximately 550 grams of suspected cannabis, police said.

A man reported that a man threatened him with a gun at about 3 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, in the 3500 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

The 35-year-old man reported that he was riding his skateboard near the intersection of Central and Cornelia when a dog ran up to him and allegedly bit him on his calf, according to police.

The man reported that he confronted the dog’s owner when the man pulled up his shirt, displayed a handgun in his waistband and said, “what are you going to do about it,” police said.

A description of the man was not provided, according to police.

A man reported that he was stabbed and one of his vehicle’s tires was slashed at about 2 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at the BP gas station, 3611 N. Harlem Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

The 61-year-old man reported that he saw five men harassing the clerk and confronted them when one of the men allegedly stabbed him in the upper left arm, then slashed the rear passenger side tire of his vehicle, police said. The man refused medical attention and could not provide detailed descriptions of the men, according to police.

An employee of Marriott Chicago O’Hare, 8535 W. Higgins Road, reported that 12 vehicles were damaged at about 7 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, while parked in the hotel’s lot, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

The employee reported that a hotel guest reported that someone broke their vehicle’s window and hotel security discovered 11 other vehicles with similar damage, according to police. It was unclear at the time of the report if anything was stolen from the vehicles, police said.

A woman reported that someone defaced the inside of her vehicle and stole her city sticker at about midnight, Sunday, Sept. 28, while it was parked in the 5100 block of West Berenice Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

The woman reported that she returned to her vehicle and discovered someone had scribbled on her dashboard and leather seats with a red crayon, then stole her city sticker, which was in the glove compartment, according to police.

A man reported that a man attacked him with a glass bottle at about 10:35 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, on the Irving Park Blue CTA Line platform, 4131 W. Irving Park Road, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.

The 41-year-old man reported that he was arguing with the man when he threw a glass bottle and it struck him in the head, according to police. The man was treated by paramedics for a laceration to his head and transported to Community First Medical Center, where he was treated in stable condition, police said.

An employee of Starline Wine and Spirits, 3654 W. Lawrence Ave., reported that a man robbed the store at about 5:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.

The employee reported that the man entered the store, walked behind the counter and took $800 in cash from the register, according to police.

The employee reported that the man started to leave so he jumped across the counter to stop him, when the man pulled out a handgun and pointed it at him, police said.

The employee reported that the man then fled west on foot towards Pulaski, according to police.

The man was described as Black, age 25 to 35, 5-5 to 5-9 and 130 to 170 pounds, and wearing a black shirt, gray sweatpants and gray slippers.
