Shootings, burglaries and attempted child luring reported in 16th Police District; Man shot, a carjacking and shootings reported in 17th Police District

A teenager reported that his vehicle was struck by a bullet at about 4:55 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, while he was driving in the 5200 block of West Cornelia Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

The 17-year-old reported that he was driving west on Cornelia through the intersection of Lockwood when an occupant of a black Lexus sport utility vehicle traveling north fired a shot that struck his vehicle in the bottom right corner of the trunk, according to police.

The teen reported that the Lexus SUV did not have front or rear license plates, police said.

The teenager reported that the occupant of the rear driver’s side seat had the window rolled down and were wearing a black ski mask, according to police.

A detailed description of the suspected shooter was not provided.

A woman reported that a litter of puppies valued at $24,000 was stolen when her home in the 4300 block of North Austin Avenue was burglarized between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered the side door was damaged and a camera facing the puppies was pushed over on its side, according to police.

The woman reported that the litter of four French bulldog puppies valued at $24,000 was missing, according to police.

The woman also reported that several items were missing, including five electronic devices valued at $5,000, jewelry valued at $6,000 and a handbag valued at $3,000, police said.

A former police officer reported that his home in the Union Ridge neighborhood was burglarized between 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, and 2:40 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

The man reported that he was away and when he returned to his home he discovered that the rear door was forced open and several items were missing, including several bottles of cologne, two handguns, ammunition, several dress uniforms, a crown cap, two sets of body armor, a vest cover, handcuffs, an asp and a duty belt with several attachments, according to police.

An employee of El Asadero Colombiano, 4800 N. Central Ave., reported that two men burglarized the restaurant at about 11:05 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

The employee reported that surveillance footage showed two men exited a black sedan wearing hooded sweatshirts, ski masks and gloves, then forced open the rear door of the business, according to police. The employee reported that surveillance footage showed the men forced open the door to the rear office and took a tray containing approximately $200 in cash, then fled through the rear door to the sedan, police said.

Shots were fired at about 2:55 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, in the 4400 block of North Austin Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

Witnesses reported that occupants of a white Jeep Cherokee with tinted windows and a blue sport utility vehicle fired several shots at each other then fled, according to police.

Officers recovered 2 spent 45-caliber shell casings from the scene, police said.

Shots were fired at about 12:25 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, in the 5300 block of West School Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

A witness reported that a man drove a white Audi Q5 truck west on School Street and fired several shots out of the vehicle, according to police. Officers recovered multiple spent shell casings and bullet fragments from the 5400 block of School, police said.

The shooter was described only as male and White/Hispanic.

The Chicago Police Department Area 5 Bureau of Detectives has issued a community alert regarding an attempted luring of a 7-year-old girl at about 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, in the 4100 block of North Marmora Avenue.

The girl was riding a scooter on the sidewalk when she was approached by a man who exited a white van in the middle of the block, according to police. The man confronted the girl and told her “I’m going to take you,” police said. The girl got off her scooter and ran northbound on Marmora away from the offender. The white van drove northbound on Marmora and turned westbound onto Berteau Avenue, police said.

The girl’s mother  reported that she was in the backyard when she heard the screeching of a vehicle coming to a stop and when she walked to the front of her home, a white van with tinted windows fled west on Berteau from Marmora, according to police.

The man was described as White, with blue eyes, and wearing an all black ski mask, black shirt, black pants and black shoes. The white van had windows on the rear and windows on the side of the van.

A man was arrested at about 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, after he allegedly bent a street sign in the 4800 block of West Cullom Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

A caller reported that the man climbed a street pole and bent a street sign near the intersection of Cullom and Lamon avenues and provided a detailed description of the man, according to police. Officers arrived and saw a man that matched the provided description standing across the street from the bent sign and detained the man, police said. Officers contacted the caller, they confirmed that the detained man was the same one that bent the sign and officers placed the man into custody, according to police.

The suspect was identified by police as Jayden Mateo Caradine, age 18, of the 8200 block of Knox Avenue.

Shots were fired in the 4700 block of West Peterson Avenue between 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, and 6:15 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.

An employee of Imperial Realty, 4744 W. Peterson Ave., reported that there was a bullet hole in a glass door and another bullet hole in a glass window, according to police. Officers recovered 5 spent shell casings from three different caliber handguns at the scene, police said.

Shots were fired in the 4000 block of North Kostner Avenue at about 1:20 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.

Officers discovered 13 spent shell casings in the street but no injuries or property damage were reported, according to police. Callers reported that they heard shots fired in the alley but officers were unable to locate a crime scene or spent shell casings in the alley, police said.

A man reported that two men and a woman carjacked him at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, in an alley of the 5500 block of North Kimball Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.

The man reported that he parked his vehicle in the alley behind his home when three people exited a gray Ford sport utility vehicle, pointed handguns and told him to get on his knees, according to police. The man reported that one of the men took his cell phone, vehicle keys then struck him in the face with the handgun, police said.

The man reported that the man who pistol-whipped him then got into his vehicle and drove away south into an alley, followed by the other two men in the gray Ford, according to police. The man reported that after the man assaulted him the man dropped 32 live rounds and a spring from the handgun before he fled, police said. Officers recovered the live rounds and the spring from the scene and the victim’s vehicle was later recovered from an alley of the 3400 block of West Foster Avenue, according to police.

The assailants were described as Black, and wearing black hooded sweatshirts, black pants and black ski masks.

A man reported that a man with a handgun robbed him at about 7:10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, in an alley of the 4700 block of North Albany Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.

The man reported that he was in a garage repairing a door when he saw a man attempt to take his tools so he grabbed the handle of the tool bag to prevent the man from stealing it, according to police. The man reported that there was a brief struggle until the man pointed a handgun at him and said, “I have a gun,” at which point he let go of the tool bag and the man fled south in the alley, police said.

The assailant was described as 5-8 to 5-11 and wearing a gray sweatshirt with a face covering.

A couple reported that shots were fired into their apartment in the 4600 block of North Central Park Avenue at about 1:15 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.

The woman reported that they were in their bedroom when they heard shots fired and three bullets came through the bedroom wall, according to police. The woman provided footage that showed the driver of a sedan with a sunroof stopped and a man exited the vehicle and fired multiple shots at her home from the street, police said.

The woman reported that it was the second time that evening that officers responded since she reported that shots were fired at their apartment at about 10:55 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, police said.

Officers recovered 31 spent 9-millimeter shell casings and 13 spent 45-caliber shell casings from the street, police said.

The shooter was described from footage as male, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, white gym shoes and light blue jeans.

No injuries were reported, police said.

A man was shot at about 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, in the 3400 block of North Monticello Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired, which was updated that a man was shot and attempted to transport himself to the hospital, according to police.

Officers met the man and his 17-year-old girlfriend in the 4700 block of North Kedzie Avenue and noted the man had gunshot wounds to the right side of his face, neck and shoulder, as well as a gunshot wound to his right shin, police said.

The 18-year-old man reported that he was at a gas station “near Addison and the Kennedy expressway” checking the air in his tires when he heard shots fired, felt pain, fled in his vehicle and realized he was shot, according to police.

The witness confirmed the story and reported that she was not shot but officers noted lacerations on her left thigh from broken glass, police said. The man was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and treated in stable condition, according to police.

Officers could not locate a crime scene or any spent shell casings at the gas station but officers located several spent shell casings in the 3400 block of North Monticello Avenue, in the vicinity of the initial shots fired call, according to police.

Detailed descriptions of the shooter or shooters were not provided, police said.

A man reported that two men carjacked him between 2:45 a.m. and 3 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, in the 3200 block of West Leland Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.

The 34-year-old man reported that he parked his vehicle, exited and was walking east on the sidewalk when the driver of a white sedan, described as possibly a Toyota, drove in front of him, two men exited and pointed handguns with extended magazines, according to police.

The man reported that the men demanded his belongings so he gave them his wallet, keys and cell phone, police said. The man reported that one of the men pushed the buttons on his vehicle keys, which activated the vehicle’s lights as it unlocked, according to police.

The man reported that the man with his keys entered his vehicle and fled with the other man following in the white sedan, police said.

One of the men was described as Black, age 20 to 25, 5-7 to 5-10 and 100 to 130 pounds, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and a black ski mask.

A man reported that he fired several shots at a man that pointed a gun at him, after he found the man trying to break into a vehicle at about 1:55 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, in the 4000 block of North Drake Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.

The man reported that he heard a cranking sound outside and when he went out to check the noise, he saw a man standing next to a vehicle holding a handgun with an extended magazine, according to police.

The man reported that he fired several shots at the offender and he fled to a dark-colored sport utility vehicle whose driver fled north on Drake, police said. Surveillance footage showed two men circled the vehicle before the man opened the door and the offender pointed an object toward the direction of the camera, where the man was standing, according to police.

Two vehicles were damaged by gunfire but no injuries were reported, police said. The man provided a valid FOID card and concealed carry license, according to police. Officers recovered 6 spent shell casings from the street and 1 spent shell casing in the area where the man was standing, police said.

The man that pointed the handgun was described as Black, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and a black ski mask.

A man reported that three men robbed him at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, in the 4500 block of West Montrose Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.

The 69-year-old man reported that three men approached him wearing black ski masks, one of the men pulled out a handgun and another man pulled out a knife, according to police. The man reported that the men took $700 in cash and a gold necklace, then fled in a vehicle.

The man with the handgun was described as Black, wearing a black ski mask and black clothing. The man with the knife was described as White, wearing a black ski mask and black clothing. The third man was described as Black, wearing a black ski mask and black clothing.

An employee of Panera Bread, 6059 N. Lincoln Ave., reported that a customer threw a drink at her and threatened to shoot her at about 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.

The employee reported that the man entered the restaurant and appeared agitated that he had to wait in line, police said. The employee reported that the man placed an order but then complained that it was wrong, according to police.

The employee reported that the man then went behind the counter, took another cup and went to the self-service counter to pour a cup of coffee, police said. The employee reported that she told the man he had to leave and he was no longer welcome at that location, when he took the drink he ordered, threw it at her, threatened to shoot her and fled, according to police.

The man was described as White, age 35 to 40, 5-10 and 170 pounds, with brown eyes, shaved gray hair and an olive complexion, wearing a yellow T-shirt and blue jeans, answering to the name “Emmanuel,” police said.

Eleven motor vehicle thefts were reported in the area between 3 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, and 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.

Thefts were reported in the 3100 and 3500 blocks of West Lawrence Avenue, the 3300 block of North Kolmar Avenue, the 4500 block of North Avers Avenue, the 3400 block of West Carmen Avenue, the 5300 block of North Pulaski Road, the 6100 block of North Lincoln Avenue, i the 3300 block of West Bryn Mawr Avenue, the 3200 block of West Irving Park Road, the 3300 block of West Hollywood Avenue and in the 4300 block of North Keystone Avenue, according to police.

Ten motor vehicle thefts were reported in the area between 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, and 2 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.

Thefts were reported in the 3200 block of West Addison Street, in the 3700 block of North Central Park Avenue, in the 3600 block of North Elston Avenue, in the 4400 block of North Kilbourn Avenue, in the 3500 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue, in the 3500 block of North Cicero Avenue, in the 4000 block of North Saint Louis Avenue, in the 4200 block of West Belmont Avenue, in the 3700 block of West Wilson Avenue and in the 4700 block of North Troy Street, according to police.
